Won't work on brake cable
expendableBottom Line: After explaining the problem of dirt in the undertube cables of my mantra. A certain Sram rep suggested I try these. Installation is fairly simple, but I can see some people complaining. Feeding a cable into the 'hook' (the part that seals the cable) is no piece of cake. If you have large fingers it's a bit of a challenge. Once that is on the rest is easy. Simply assemble the rest and connect the cable. While the instructions say to push it all the way back while in the small cog, I found that it was better to leave a bit of room, say 90% all the way back. Hint: look at the cable and thread it on, it goes on much easier. The performance of this is great. Given the degree of tightness that the hook has on the cable, nothing is getting in. And the exposed cable doesn't move in or out. The bellows allow the seal to shift, and since the hook moves with the cable dirt can't work into the cable. With the spring thaw, everything has been wet and these things work great. While the seals are covered in mud there is ZERO in the housing.I wish they had one for brake cable. Unfortunately this wont work on a rear brake cable because the parts are plastic and would be crushed between the brake housing and cable stop.Sram builds great stuff by virtue of the K.I.S.S principle
