Submitted by dailyrider a Cross Country Rider from denton, TX, USA
Date Reviewed: June 22, 2005
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $25.00
Purchased At:Bike-o-rama
Strengths:long reach, frame carrier works well, combination is changeable
Weaknesses:Some jerk gnawed halfway through it with bolt cutters last week. The bike didn't get stolen, but by flexing the cut, I can easily break the remaining strands and disable the lock.
Similar Products Used:old school lame u-lock
Bike Setup:specialized hardrock, xtr shifters, 2.5 weirwolf/mutano, marzocchi 100mm exr
Bottom Line:Obviously, the thief didn't have enough time to take my bike, but he could easily have finished the job in ~30 seconds.

This lock earned its price, but it's obviously not enough to dissuade a dedicated thief.

New plan: 2 different kinds of locks

Date Reviewed: April 24, 2004
Favorite Trail:street
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $25.00
Purchased At:Local bike shop
Strengths:Hard to cut with large cable cutters, light, compact, combo lock, mount clip.
Weaknesses:While locking up wanted to change combo so changed combination and then locked. Came back and it wouldn't open. Had to go to the firehouse and ask firemen to cut it. Specialized swapped it for a new one at the shop without a receipt. Don't know if I trust the mechanism now.
Similar Products Used:U-lock
Bike Setup:Old Specialized Rockhopper with Deore LX.
Bottom Line:The lock failed when I needed it, I'm not impressed with the combination lock. It was hard to cut with the large cutters. I think the key lock would be more reliable.

Submitted by Dan a Cross Country Rider from Bremerton Wa
Date Reviewed: January 2, 2004
Favorite Trail:Green mountain WA
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $32.00
Purchased At:The mountain shop
Strengths:It has a Long cable that can eassily lock the front and rear wheels as well as the frame to a light post ect...
Weaknesses:The locking mech and the thin plastic mesh on the outside of the cable
Similar Products Used:cheap brinks cable lock w/padlock, Master lock cable lock.
Bike Setup:stock 2004 Cannondale Jekyll 1000
Bottom Line:After 1 month the lock mech failed after i opened the lock leaving me with no lock for my bike. The main problem is that there is no way to keep rain out of the lock so no mater how much graphite or oil u use it fails. I was foold by a brand name lock with a sub standard mech.

Date Reviewed: October 26, 2002
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $27.00
Purchased At:mission cyclery
Strengths:thick cable, barrel key, protective layer to protect bike's finsih.
Weaknesses:coil doesn't unwrap, protective layer seems very fragile
Similar Products Used:standard Bell U lock.
Bike Setup:2k2 hardrock comp
Bottom Line:great lock, but i wouldn't trust it alone, i would use a combo. for example i use my u-lock to lock the frame, and then use the specialized lock to lock the wheels and frame to the bike rack.

Submitted by Psycho a Weekend Warrior from Somewhere in Ohio
Date Reviewed: May 2, 2001
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $25.00
Purchased At:Eddy's Bike Shop
Strengths:price, strength, the funky round style key/cylinder
Weaknesses:too hard to uncoil
Similar Products Used:rusty steal chain, paid a homeless guy with a baseball bat
Bottom Line:This seems to be a pretty strong lock and is fairly lightweight for it's size. I bought it to lock my bike to a roof rack and it works perfectly. The only thing I don't like is that it just doesn't want to uncoil.
