Bottom Line:
The UPS Economy Case I have has accompanied me on a three-and-a-half month trip throughout Europe, namely Romania, the Czech Republic and France.
The case successfully survived the rough handling on Louisville, Chicago, Amsterdam, Bucharest, Prague and Paris airports, as well as handling by Romanian, Czech, and French taxi drivers, in addition to less-than-smooth road conditions throughout the trip. Although is scratched here and there, of course, thatt's OK. I have to admit the guys at Pedal Pack did a good job
The problems I have with concern the top side, the one with the handle on it, and the way the two parts of the case fit together. Some reinforcement could be good, because as it is, there is a tendency for it to come out from underneath the lid.
Also, I've come to understand the advantages of a vallanced case which the company makes for an extra $100, bringing the cost up to $289 (. . .exactly!). The fancy model is almost the same, but it's vallanced, i.e. has aluminun rails on the edges of the case, reinforcing it considerably. Although the material is solid on the cheap one I have, sometimes the two sides bend and do not quite fit the way they were meant to.
Overall, kudos to the case and its makers. The price is steep, but think of what you'd pay if some idiot on Louisville Airport busts your bike box open and breaks your frame. . .I do hope though, that the company tries and succeeds in lowering costs so that their other case is cheaper. . .
Overall Rating:3
