Strengths:    This product has worked great for me for many years untill this past year.I"t hasent lasted more than 20 minutes

Weaknesses:    doesent last long at all.

Bottom Line:
I love this product up untill this year when i picked up fishing. the last three cans i have bought have been worthless after 20 minutes.Unless something changes i along with many fishing buddies will no longer be an off client. I just wish fishing would be better without no bugs. Please do something about our problem. Please write back

Strengths:    Neato novelty flame thrower and temporary torch--though you can't manage to light anything with it. Finally found a good use for it.

Weaknesses:    How has this product become the standard and most popular American bug repellant?

Bottom Line:
I finally found a good use for Off while watching a show called "I Shouldn't Be Alive."

This totally unprepared guy is lost in the Amazon when a large predator approaches, hunting him. Being unexperienced in the outdoors, much less the Amazon jungle, he of course brought the most notoriously ineffective Off bug aerosol spray. So he waits 'til the big cat is close enough to attack, then lights the aerosol to scare it away.

Sure enough, he wasn't bitten.

Strengths:    Flavor, duration of protection

Weaknesses:    No huge cans for keg parties/hooka pipe sessions

Bottom Line:
One of the things I immediately noticed about Deep Woods Off was that it didn't sting when I sprayed it directly up my nose. Watering eyes weren't an issue, as the direct blast right to my head caused some momentary blindness. What I will say is that big economy sized cans of the Deep Woods flavor are hard to come by. I don't want that commie Orange Can weak stuff....that's bush league. If Off can come to its senses and make the cans of Deep Woods bigger for parties, weddings, bah mitzvahs, then I'll be a true believer!

Strengths:    Good, strong buzz.

Weaknesses:    Somewhat bitter taste. Temporary loss of vision.

Bottom Line:
After a long day at the office I like to kick back with a can of deep woods off and a brown paper bag and unwind. Real easy to use - just spray and huff. You get a good, long lasting light-headed feeling and I have yet to have any mosquitoes bite the inside of my throat or lungs! Having trouble remembering things lately, but that's probably from my custom re-routed exhaust system on my car.

Date Reviewed: March 19, 2003

Strengths:    Smells good,
Tastes good,
It's the Don Perignon of bug "repellent."
Better than Kool Aid.

It covers up the scent of lady mosquitos I've been cheating on my wife with.

Weaknesses:    My mosquito wife gets mad when I get home stinking of the stuff and she's there taking care of our over 300 children. She screams at me, "You've been out all night drinking blood, haven't you! You reek of 'OFF.' I can smell it all over you!"

Bottom Line:
I love OFF especially because it makes the people I feed 'off' actually believe that my friends and I are not going to suck them dry, so they don't put up such a fight.

Then the smell and having it get in their eyes irritates them and that makes their temperatures go up, making them much more attractive all night drink bars.

Finally, the tingly feeling OFF gives to humans when they spray it all over themselves masks the feeling of me sticking my needle in them until the very last moment when I'm full and have left them with a big, itchy bump on some highly sensitive part of their bodies--such as their knuckles, ankles, and toe knuckles (I love toe-knuckles in particular).

It's and aquired taste, but well worth getting your pallette used to.

Strengths:    When you hold your lighter up and spray it, it makes a cool blow torch to burn bugs with. You can use the can to smack the mosquitos on your legs and arms.

Weaknesses:    The actual spray doesn't keep the bugs off. Bugs seem to enjoy attacking me even when I use OFF spray.

Bottom Line:
I remember my parents spraying OFF on me when I was a kid. Didn't seem to work then either. I hate the way it feels on my skin, the smell is awful, and I don't even notice a slight reduction in how many bugs are swarming around me.

Submitted by Sprocketeer a Cross Country Rider from Narashino, Chiba, Japan (native of New York)

Date Reviewed: June 24, 2002

Strengths:    The smell--is it supposed to convince us that if we can't stand the odor then the mosquitos can't either?

Weaknesses:    OFF works about as well at keeping bugs away as cough drops do at keeping you from coughing--unless you presently are stankin' of a fresh coat, it's no good once you leave the suburbs, and you have to absolute cover yourself in the stuff for it to work.

Bottom Line:
OFF is awful (OFFul?). It's effectiveness is limited to the backyard of your average suburban home in the rolling hills of Westchester, NY--and even that is a stretch.

I've been around the world, and experienced all kinds of mosquitos--in the US northeast, Mexico, and the Far East--and I can tell you Worcheshire sauce might be more effective than OFF.

About the only way OFF is effective is when it makes your sweat so sticking that mosquitos are drowning in it. You literally have to cover every inch of yourself in it for even minimal effectiveness and keep spraying it on at regular intervals. Pretty soon it bothers you more than the bugs who, though they may be less in number, continue to feed on you.

Once I tried Ben's 100 I was hooked. You don't need to pour it over your head or spray it on--no decent repellent should need to be sprayed on--you just put a bit of it here and there and it works, so a tiny little pocket-size bottle of the stuff can last you until you misplace it a few years later and get a new one.

So go to a tackle shop or a real outdoor equiptment store and get yourself a little Ben's 100, which doesn't even come in large volume as far as I know because it doesn't need to--as opposed to the PINT spray cans OFF comes in. Put a little on your finger and put little stipes of it on your exposed skin areas. That's all you should need.

Happy trails.

And My kids just love the disapearing purple stuff! they wear it every whwere they go! It's just like me when I was a kid! except I took my doll every where instead of wearing Off! everywhere! Any way it is a grest product and everyone should buy it!!

Strengths:    Keeps bugs off

Weaknesses:    Keeps everybody else off, deet, oily skin and hands

Bottom Line:
Works quite well, though after a month of living in PR you don't really give a hoot 'bout mosquitos, though on a camping trip, your life depends on it. Don't use it if you want to ride in the group, cuz noone really likes the smell. Some hypocondhriacs are scared of deet, but it hasn't affected me yet.
You don't want to put the rub off kind right before a ride, unless you use gloves, or if you like your hands slipping all over your handlebars.
Me? I preffer just using long pants and riding real fast to keep the bugs off.

Bottom Line:

I found that off works better than all the other brands. I use the Skintastic kind, which I think feels the best. It isn't heavy or really oily, and it still works pretty good. It only lasts about 2 hours, and the deer fly's still buzz around your head, but at least they won't bite. And as far as I know, there's not DEET in skintastic.
