The first real cycling computer! Lets you decide which of the seven most popular functions to display. Customizable display allows you to decide the size the data will appear on the screen. Stores ride miles in memory and can graph it for the last ride, last week's rides, last month's, last 6 month's, and even the last 6 years. On-screen instructions walk you through setup / operations and includes a built in tire calibration chart for quick reference. Bracket/sensor and magnet mount on all forks and handlebars without need for tools. View data at 100% feature means you will not have to squint at little numbers on a small screen. ROM-based memory means you will never lose information, wheel settings, etc. when you change a battery. Battery life is approximately 370 hours and low-battery indicator alerting you when 40 hours of life remain (uses CR2032 battery included).

Strengths: Clear, big display really easy to read. Very customisable. A few cute features like birthday reminders, 100km & 1000km reminders. Solid mounting bracket. Very complex analysis of riding with bar graphs of weekly, monthly, and yearly totals. Overall max speed means your all time max wont be wiped when the trip computer is reset.
Weaknesses: Display seems to scratch easier than other products ive seen/tried. Fairly complicated to change settings. Too many buttons (5). Quite a big unit
Bottom Line:
Great computer for the technologicly able, with loads of cool features. If you lyk things simple, give this a miss! Sturdy mounting for this chunky cyclo. I have been using two of these across my bikes for a year now and after racking up 4000kms between the two i have had no problems with the battery life like others have mentioned. If you need all the bells and whistles, this is definitely for you!
Bike Setup: 06 Avanti Lightning; 05 Specialized hardrock

Strengths: Easy to use and set up, plenty of functions
Weaknesses: No cadence
Bottom Line:
This review is for the OS 1.1, which, from what I have heard, is a big improvement over the OS 1.0.
This thing is pretty cool. Lots of information from it in a small package. It draws graphs showing how much you have ridden, and has a lot of neat little Easter Eggs - it will tell you Happy New Year, Happy Birthday, and tell you when you do things like ride 100 miles, the length of Japan, etc.
It seems to be pretty accurate when comparing the speed to my GPS units. You can adjust your tire size down to the millimeter so you can get it to be pretty darn accurate.
I have only had one problem with it so far and that was shortly after I got it - the thing refused to do autostart. About 1 mile into my ride it suddenly turned on and started working. I have not had any trouble at all with it since, so think the problem was that things were not quite mounted right.
All in all this is one nifty little computer. If you like gadgets, you may want to seriously consider this.

Strengths: Has lots of stats
Weaknesses: eats batteries
Bottom Line:
Don't bother I put this on my trainer which I did not ride too often and after 6 months I had already gone through two batteries. I cut my costs by buying another different computer.

Strengths: Has some nifty little announcments like you have just traveled the length of Japan and Happy B-Day (yipee)
Weaknesses: Not very reliable, Eats Batteries, crappy display, Product Support is SO-SO
Bottom Line:
The OS1 started out to be a decent Computer on the Raod Bike but soon there were issues with the display fading and then showing black spots where black spots should not be. Then the thing got real cranking and started to eat batteries like they were going for wholesale (and they ain't cheap). I did get a rather good response from the Cats at Cateye but too little too late. There is only a one year warranty (this is probably for good reason). So, in closing you should save your money and by a lesser complex computer and buy TWO or THREE of anything else that will probably last twice as long. The setup is not a piece of cake either, by the by.
Strengths: Im gettIN THE NEW OS 1.1 CATEYE OH YA BAYBE. ITS GONNA BE PERFECT THE 1.0 WAS JUST A TESTER COMPUTER. THE 1.1 WILL BE OUT ON THE END OF SEPTEMBER AND I LOVE RIDING ON ATV'S SO THIS COMPUTER MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE ON A MOTORCYCLE OR ATV OR SOMETHING.
Strengths: the os has a clear view and easy to read , contrast adjustable, large display with lots of information showing(elpased time, faster/slower than average speed at your choice)
Weaknesses: lack of display lighting. not ideal for 4-6 inches fork(the wires aren't long enough)
Bottom Line:
looking for better improvement for OS1.1
At US$35 which is a extremely bargain
I'll give it a 4 star product if Cateye will improve the computer with a light then it will be a 5 star product !!
Strengths: I dont know hot e dg what i have to hgeklp you i am thinking aboyut butyyin did speeeeeeedometer so can someone tell me what this one does i am not getting this 1.0 because i think they made it wrong im gettin the 1.1 the new one.
This is a further further review. I had to change the battery recently, following the instructions in the manual, apparently its supposed to keep all ya data, well mine didnt, it lost everything. full re-set... i was well pi$$ed. nuther chilli gone... almost none now!

Strengths: Big Display, Contrast Adjustable, large memory, multiple trips.
Weaknesses: Software
Bottom Line:
Very nice computer, personaly the messages do nothing for me. The adjustible contrast and personal milage i find most usefull. BUT, cateye need to sort out the software in this thing as it has some major bugs. 1: I always have mine on auto, on 2 occasions it has not stopped timing when stationary. 2: on about 3 occasions the unit has compleately locked up and needed a full re-set.
Tip: never try to change any setting whilst riding or timing, it seems to freeze.
5 for value, as i got it for half price 3 weeks after it was released. 3 overall due to the crashes, but its ok as long as u leave it.

Strengths: Easy Setup
Weaknesses: Lack of instructions to retain historical memory, even when instructions obtained from Cateye memory was still dumped on reset. Locked-up 2 in 2 days, required a reset. Extremely cheap and easily broken mounting hardware
Bottom Line:
Don't waste your time, this computer is way to expensive (for what you get) and does not work properly.
