CatEye OS1 Computer

DESCRIPTION

Stores ride miles in memory and can graph it for the last ride, last week's rides, last month's, last 6 month's, and even the last 6 years. On-screen instructions walk you through setup / operations and includes a built in tire calibration chart for quick reference. Bracket/sensor and magnet mount on all forks and handlebars without need for tools. View data at 100% feature means you will not have to squint at little numbers on a small screen. Strength:

Very easy set up, Large easy to read display

Weakness:

Light duty transmitter wire, keeps going blank and ( EATS) batteries. Now its dead for good

Don't fall for all the bells and whistles on this one. There are plenty of other good computers out there FOR A LOT LESS. As I rode the display would sometimes blank or would go from the current speed to a much lower speed with no actual change. Its kinda nice when I went for aride and it said HAPPY BIRTHDAY across the screen as I rode along. Nobody else remembered. The thin wire and the weak mount means that this is meant only as a road computer. The setup was as easy as it gets but still 80 bucks I'll get two Specialized Enduros and a beer next time

Strength:

Rich feature set, really nice mount, extremely easy setup, very easy to read screen.

Weakness:

Big and heavy unit to accommodate the really nice screen and the enclosed brain. Price.

This is a very nice unit which is very easy to set up and use. I think that anyone who has a lower brain stem could probably figure this thing out.

The mount is really nice & very adjustable, and the attachment of the magnet to the spokes is the most intelligent that I've seen. I'd like to see CatEye adopt this for their other computers.

The only disadvantage is that the display unit is fairly LARGE and looks somewhat goofy on the bike. Also it is pretty darn heavy relative to the Enduro2. I'd like to have a smaller version of this thing, because I don't really need the numbers to be *quite* this big.

If you don't mind the size, this thing works as advertised, and works very well. So I'll give it 5 chilis, since dour and a half isn't an option.

Clear, big display really easy to read. Very customisable. A few cute features like birthday reminders, 100km & 1000km reminders. Solid mounting bracket. Very complex analysis of riding with bar graphs of weekly, monthly, and yearly totals. Overall max speed means your all time max wont be wiped when the trip computer is reset.

Weakness:

Display seems to scratch easier than other products ive seen/tried. Fairly complicated to change settings. Too many buttons (5). Quite a big unit

Great computer for the technologicly able, with loads of cool features. If you lyk things simple, give this a miss! Sturdy mounting for this chunky cyclo.
I have been using two of these across my bikes for a year now and after racking up 4000kms between the two i have had no problems with the battery life like others have mentioned.
If you need all the bells and whistles, this is definitely for you!

Has some nifty little announcments like you have just traveled the length of Japan and Happy B-Day (yipee)

Weakness:

Not very reliable, Eats Batteries, crappy display, Product Support is SO-SO

The OS1 started out to be a decent Computer on the Raod Bike but soon there were issues with the display fading and then showing black spots where black spots should not be. Then the thing got real cranking and started to eat batteries like they were going for wholesale (and they ain't cheap). I did get a rather good response from the Cats at Cateye but too little too late. There is only a one year warranty (this is probably for good reason). So, in closing you should save your money and by a lesser complex computer and buy TWO or THREE of anything else that will probably last twice as long. The setup is not a piece of cake either, by the by.

Big Display, Contrast Adjustable, large memory, multiple trips.

Weakness:

Software

Very nice computer, personaly the messages do nothing for me. The adjustible contrast and personal milage i find most usefull. BUT, cateye need to sort out the software in this thing as it has some major bugs. 1: I always have mine on auto, on 2 occasions it has not stopped timing when stationary. 2: on about 3 occasions the unit has compleately locked up and needed a full re-set.

Tip: never try to change any setting whilst riding or timing, it seems to freeze.

5 for value, as i got it for half price 3 weeks after it was released. 3 overall due to the crashes, but its ok as long as u leave it.

Strength:

Easy Setup

Weakness:

Lack of instructions to retain historical memory, even when instructions obtained from Cateye memory was still dumped on reset.
Locked-up 2 in 2 days, required a reset.
Extremely cheap and easily broken mounting hardware

Don't waste your time, this computer is way to expensive (for what you get) and does not work properly.
