The Yakima HighRoller Upright Bike Mount lets you load your bike onto your roof rack without needing to remove its front wheel. As one of Yakima's top-shelf models, the HighRoller's automotive finish looks sleek on your vehicle, and it won't harm your favorite bike's paint job because this mount holds onto your bike's wheel, not its frame. This mount carries any bike with wheel sizes 20 to 29 inches and with nearly any tire size, from skinny roadies to three-inch fatties. Even bikes with disc br
Strengths: The upright rooftop bike mount is a treat for Yakima bike racks lovers. It has an excellent finish and a stylish design. It can hold your bike easily, not to mention the front tire as well with no chance of getting any scratches anywhere. It can get a firm grip on all types of tires so there is no need to worry when you put on new tires on your bikes. It is easy to install and can be adjusted and fitted on factory fitted and off the shelf cross bars. It carries a 1 year warranty and is basically recommended for hauling bikes.
Weaknesses: The cons have been mostly heard on the security side of the product where you will need to buy a few more accessories to make sure that your bikes and mounting stay secure. To lock the bike rack to the cross bars and to lock the bikes to your racks, you will need to buy the locks but this will be something worth having as it will give you a peace of mind that your bikes and racks won’t be flying away on your way to the trail while driving.
Strengths: Easy to insert the bike in the rack (if you can lift a bike over your head). The adjustable front wheel sizer works well. Cranking down the rear arm to snug the tire also works well. The lock is a nice touch (though I think that purchase is extra). It is very stable. The rack has not moved at all after I installed it. The bike does not move around on the rack. There is no appreciable wind noise.
Weaknesses: Its not something you will take off your car during the season. Its a bit involved to get it on the roof. I think riding with the bike on the roof dropped my gas mileage a bit.
Easy to insert the bike in the rack (if you can lift a bike over your head). The adjustable front wheel sizer works well and has held several different size wheels. Cranking down the rear arm to snug the tire also works well. The lock is a nice touch (though I think that purchase is extra). Its much easier to put my bike on the roof rack than to put it on the rear rack. Plus, I never remove the roof rack. I have had this for a few years now, and it has not suffered any wear or degradation. I'm very happy with it.
P.S. I use this on full suspension and hard tail mountain bike. My son's 24" mountain bike. My road bike. Fits all very well.
