Strengths:    Sturdy, strong, solid build. Arms can be folded down.

Weaknesses:    Way too heavy for me to carry in and out to my car! What's the point? Had to buy a $300 hitch first. Rack has some sway. Had to buy the locks separately. And the arms of this thing never did hold my bike without a lot of fuss and getting help from at least one other person. Too much trouble.

Bottom Line:
I do not recommend this complicated thing for anyone without strong upper body strength or a lot of money to waste.

Strengths:    Folds down easily. Cradles do decent job of holding bikes steady.

Weaknesses:    Will only hold 4 bikes if they are exactly the right size in relation to one another. Lock system is minimalist crap. Sloping top tubes or DS bikes require separate adapter ($$) to mount them. If you have a Lefty-equipped bike, stay away from this kind of rack!

Bottom Line:
As a basic, top-tube mount rack, it's ok. The cradles work decently, if your tube configuration matches, and the fold down mechanism does its job.

If you have oddball frames (which means the majority of mid to high end mountain bikes these days), you're going to have to use separate adapters at $35 a pop that hook onto the stem/seatpost. On Lefty forks, those adapters barely fit and need extra padding to prevent damaging the fork clamp. Getting our particular 4 bikes onto the 4 bike version was REALLY difficult. Handlebars, cables, frame tubes, etc. all interfered with one another, causing lots of tweaking and cussing.

The cable lock system sold separately for this rack is cleverly stored inside one of the swingarms, but it's not very strongly built and only locks the outside bike. That works ok if your other three bikes are mounted through their frame tubes, but with the separate adapters, they can easily be dropped off the rack even when the outside bike is locked in place.

We now have a Swagman XTC4 and wish we'd known about it when we bought the Yakima. The Yakima is going on Craigslist as soon as I get the time to post it...

Strengths:    Easy to us and mount to hitch. Purchased locking system which is simple to use and hides with in the rack. Very solid when mounted (rack does not move). Excellent value for the price.

Weaknesses:    Bikes can move on the rails, haven't found a solution just yet. Locks are a deterent only, could easily be broken off.

Bottom Line:
This review is for the Double Down 2 (4 bikes). Suggest along with the locking system you use a cable lock (like Kryptonite brand) for extra security. When carrying 4 bikes I use pieces of garden hose placed on the rear A frame of the bike to prevent scratches. Otherwise, the rack does a great job, and folds away (which my older ROC4 did not) to prevent someone hitting the rack.
