Modern Bike

Mountains Plus

Date Reviewed: August 17, 2009
Favorite Trail:Reactor, Menai
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $220.00
Purchased At:Roof Rack World
Strengths:Ease of installation to roof rack (3 minutes). I dont really think the bike can come off these racks unless the rack breaks. The bike is locked on fairly securely. Not overnight secure, more like outside a cafe secure.
Weaknesses:Slight front wheel wobble at speed. Mud stuck under the clamp will scratch your frame. The wheel ratchets arent long enough for tyres over 2.3in. You may need to deflate tyres to attatch the bike with some wheel/tyre combinations
Similar Products Used:Mont Blanc Barra and older Thule stuff
Bike Setup:Trance X
GT Avvie
Bottom Line:Good rack. Probably the best of the wheels on, roof rack bike carriers. Flexible enough for road bikes, trail bikes and hardtails. Certainly more versitile and secure than the Mont Blanc

Favorite Trail:any dirt
Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:Easy on easy off... i've looked into other racks and this is the one with security on the frame itself..
Weaknesses:could use some type of locking device for the wheels.. other than that im very satisfied with this rack
Bottom Line:this rack works like a charm.. as said easy on/off. bike is secured once frame claw is cranked...

Date Reviewed: July 25, 2007
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $130.00
Purchased At:Lombardi
Strengths:Ease of bike loading / unloading - no front wheel removal. Sleek design when not in use - the wife does not hate the way it makes her car look. Ease of removal from the roof racks. Rack mounting clamps fit factory roof rack - do not need a Thule Base Rack.
Weaknesses:The front wheel shimmies left to right when doing greater than 35 mph.
Bottom Line:This is a nice rack for ease of use. But, the front wheel shimmies right to left on the highway. It is very disheartening and leaves me worried that the bike will fly off. I cannot go 80mph as the wheel shimmy is to extreme. Maybe this is a road bike rack. I use it exclusively for mountain wheels.
