Strengths: Big. Has fit two sets of skis and boots, one full box of skates, one full box of snow boots, 3 sleeping bags and a 5' toboggan for a trip to Colorado.
Weaknesses: No air holes for that unruly passenger. (I'm kidding, of course.) Sometimes need help getting it closed, since the two main latch points need to be set just right in their locking position. Hard to describe. This is more a factor of my stuffing too much gear in than the box.
Bottom Line:
The Thule Mountaineer has helped us immensely. For ~$300.00 it prevented us from having to get a bigger vehicle. While the Mountaineer has been replaced in Thule's line, I think that this one and other Thule rooftop boxes are great and highly recommended.
