So, you want to fit bike racks to a Ford station wagon, van, or sport utility. What do you do? Ask your Ford parts rep. about Ford's own bike racks. Ford uses a propriatary rack system that can easily be adapted to carry bikes.The bike racks, themselves, are of the type that holds the entire bike upright and secures it with an A arm connected to the downtube and straps that hold the rims within the rack's tray.On the plus side: I've seen a similar design from Yakima, but it required an adapter kit for each different type of vehicle. The racks from Ford will fit any of their vehicles, so long as they're equiped with the standard Ford roof rack. I paid $100 CDN for each of my two bike racks, and figure that that represents fairly-good value.On the minus side: The build quality could be a little better, although I've never bent or twisted mine. There are no provisions for locking the bike to the rack, but Yakima or Thule locking knobs might fit. The racks attach to the roof rack rails with three phillips head screw/bolts, making them simple to swipe, if you don't replace the bolts with a less common type. For an added measure of security, I use three differant types of fasteners.Overall, I give the Ford bike racks three chilis.
