I've used this rack on many bike trips and had no issues with the mechanism. My boyfriend has backed into things with it, but no real damage...thanks to the bumper guard the Delta distributor kindly threw in gratis with my order. Unfortunately, a good rear ender finally demolished it, but it saved the rest of my truck, except for a little dent on the bumper. I don't think the other hitch racks have a bumper...
