Mountain Cycle Rumble (frame) 2003 Hardtail

DESCRIPTION

The Rumble is Mountain Cycle's new do-everything hardtail. It features a combination tubular and monocoque frame for stiffness and strength, yet it's still light enough for serious cross-country riding.

Strength:

Built to last, not for the weak

Weakness:

Weaknesses are for sissy frames

This is a follow-up review: had this bike for over 4 years now, and I have no desire to get another hardtail... this is all you need. It has survived heinous accidents (one that sent me to surgery) and 4-times-a-week intermediate and advanced trailriding underneath my 210-pound butt. Components on the bike have changed over the years, but not the frame. I am sold on their product line. When I get my full suspension rig, I am getting a Moutain Cycle (likely a Zen).

Strength:

Strong, nice geometry, good placement of tabs for cables

Weakness:

Heavy (4.9 lbs)

I am a heavy guy (210+lbs), and needed a frame to haul my big bad self over the mountains without being crushed. When I was doing comparison shopping, I noted the weight. So I emailed Mountain Cycle and asked what the deal was with it being so heavy, compared to their competition. They were blunt: you want light, go get someone else's frame, but if you want something that will take serious abuse, consider us. I took the gamble, and LOVE this frame. It is built in a fashion similiar to their full-suspension frames, giving it a distinctive look (it does indeed turn heads). Yeah, it's on the heavy side, but I made up for the high weight of frame with lighter components and just having to get even bigger legs. :) Good price for the level of workmanship, other frames in this category run $100 or more than I paid. I would buy it again... but probably won't ever have to!

Strength:

Quality craftsmanship, monocoque and welds are pure sex, awesome geo for many styles of riding. Beefy/strong frame.

Weakness:

none

Makes a sick hardtail. I've done everything on the bike from DJ to epic XC to race dual. It's definately a beautifully crafted do-everything hardtail. If I could only have one bike this would be it!
