The shop is small but very clean and neat inside. I have been there a hand full of times to get fit and purchase some miscellaneous stuff.
The female manager there is very kind and knowledgeable (mostly roadie though).
Negative- I was charged for the install of a rear deraileur that I paid full price for there in the shop. My old LBS, BikeTown in Abilene, TX never charged labor for the install of anything that was ordered or purchased through their shop.

Customer Service

-Very good customer service (not great).
-They greet you as soon as you walk in. I once had them tinker with a crank that I had problems fiting. Well initially they couldn't get it on either but did not charge me for the effort.
-They offer 10% military discount on accessories

The lead wrench was a nice guy but isn't straight forward. Just 2 weeks ago we actually had a discussion on how he could now match any SRAM product to any online retailer. He even went on to mention Pricepoint and how he saved customers money for going through them instead. Well, this morning I asked him if they could pricematch online and he says "no not online but I can pricematch local only". Wow! Unfortunately it was an emergency and had a race in 48hrs, so I had to pay 95% more than what I could get it for online! On top of that I was charged for the labor. I'm sorry but even though the people there are nice I refuse to pay 95% markup for niceness. I will not support this LBS any longer.

I think the location information may be wrong due to the shops relocation. They are now at 2838 1604 Loop, San Antonio, Texas 78232.

Moved here in June '10 and was looking for a local bike shop that may be as good as back home. Bought some tires from them, nothing big, since they were close. Needed to get some spokes replaced and wheel trued. The reviews on here convinced me to give them a shot. I'm very picky about how I want it done which I found out is their normal way of doing it. Not only was the repair excellent, but it was cheaper than I'd ever seen. At the same time I had a missing part on my bike pump but would rather buy a new one than put too much money into a repair. They found the part, ordered and fixed it for free! I'm very happy that I found this place, will be a repeat customer and spreading the word.

Customer Service

Excellent!

Only negative was a dog they kept at the shop that jumped and licked anyone who came through the door. Really a nuisance with my kids who are 3,5 and 6 years in age and couldn't really defend themselves from getting pounced. It wasn't there when the wheel was picked up so it may have been a chance thing.

Small but clean shop with a good inventory. Good location with plenty of parking. Have all the beginner stuff as well as the high dollar pro stuff. If they don't have it they can get it for you.

Customer Service

Above all else, Ride Away has superb customer service. I purchased a Santa Cruz from them over 4 years ago and they still remember my name and my bike. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and will help you with all of your issues including riding style. When i first went to purchase a full suspension bike i was going to get a Specialized Epic Marathon. After talking to them about this they asked me about my riding style, where i liked to ride and what i liked to do while riding. After telling them my intentions they told me that the marathon was not the right bike for me. They showed me a used Santa Cruz Blur that was previously owned by Reuben the shops owner. After some tweeks the bike fit like a glove. I purchased the Blur and saved almost $1000.00. Since then I have seen some of the employees around the trails and they have helped me ride more aggressively to get the most out of my bike. This is easily the best customer service I have received. I have refered 3 of my friends to this shop and each has purchased a bike and have a similar opinion.

So far this has been the best bike shop in town. If they don't have it, they will order it for you. I saved half the price on my Carbon Pro SL Enduro last month and was worth every penny. These guy have the fairest prices in San Antonio. They carry pretty much everything you need for either mountain or road biking.

Customer Service

Customer service is SUPERB. You are always welcomed and treated respectfully, not like other bike stores in town. These guys are very knowledgeable and will try to get you what you need or service your bike as soon as they can. Reuben is the owner of the Ride Away and I have had the pleasure of conducting business with. I hope his stores stay in business for as long as I am riding.

If you are interested in buying a bike for your first time please visit any of the three stores. They will help you find a bike that fits your needs and will not price gouge you like Planet Bike.

Customer Service

EXCELLENT! I bought my Bianchi from these guys about a year ago and got a really great deal. I was considering buying a more expensive Specialized Tarmac but one of the sales guys told me to try out some of the other bikes (like my Bianchi) in the shop to get a feel for them. After riding the Bianchi, I new that I had found my new road bike. He was totally cool and did not try to push the more expensive bike. His main concern was making sure that I was going to be happy on my new ride.

In my opinion, this is the best LBS in San Antonio. I been to and purchased bikes from other LBSs and Ride-A-Way is in a league of their own.

These guys are super knowledgable, and actually take the time to listen to your needs. Service dept. knows whats up and gets the job done without delay (great turnaround time). Also, they have a killer new shop out on Redland Rd. and Loop 1604. I would highly recommend this shop if you are looking for a new local bike store to frequent.

Ride away is a great shop that is always clean and well stocked. I live in the San Antonio area and make frequent visits to Austin and Dallas. Ride Away is by far the best shop I have been too. Ruben (store owner), Ryan, Ben and the other shop employees are very knowledgeable on mtn and road biking. Almost every bike store I went too was ready to sell me any bike I looked at for a crasy price. When I went to Ride Away, it was a much nicer atmosphere with no pressure. I must have gone there for a year and a half before making a major purchase. When I did, I got a GREAT deal on a fully decked out Blur. While I was spending some time in Austin with family I decided to do some price checking. I visited the Austin Bike shop on Lamar and while there customer service was great, their prices were several hundreds of dollars more on high end bikes than Ride Aways. Ride Away was selling a fully decked out Nomad for almost 1K less!!! Not only that but ride away had many bikes in stock where as other places put you on a 6 month waiting list. This is the best bike shop in Texas period.

Customer Service

Excellent customer service. Very fast turn around on repairs and they don't kill you insane prices for the little stuff like stan's (set up my tubeless wheels with stan's for free).

When I moved to San Antonio a little over 10 years ago, I began looking for a LBS that would be able to provide at least three important services: fast/effective bike repairs, large selection of name brands, and a shop where my occasional “stupid bike question” is answered without making me feel that my question is “stupid” and unimportant. This Specialized Premier LBS meets all my expectations and more. I’ve found that Ride Away has knowledgeable and attentive staff, which can help you with virtually all your biking needs. Plus, an authorized Specialized Body Geometry bike fit employee is available to help all levels of riders with a proper bike fit. If Ride Away doesn’t stock some obscure item that I must have, they will gladly order the item, give me an approximate arrival date, and call me when it arrives. One other benefit is the fact that there are two Ride Away Bicycles locations, with the main store located on the easily accessible Huebner Oaks Shopping Center with the other location being strategically located on the west side of San Antonio at 8509 Culebra Road. The Culebra location is convenient in that it may be right on your way to Government Canyon State Natural Area, where singletrack and technical riding challenges abound. Employees at both locations can help you with directions to just about any type of riding you may desire in the area. Finally, I am a member of two local bike clubs and Ride Away provides a 10% discount on parts and accessories to San Antonio bike club members. Be sure and show your bike club membership card when making a purchase to receive the discount.

The location map only shows Ride Away Bicycles second location on Culebra Road. The larger main store is located in the Huebner Oaks Shopping Center, directly west of the AMC Theater, next door to the Fire Wok Grill. The photos are of the larger main store.

Customer Service

I don't think it can be beat. Turn around time for bike repairs and service is above average for shops in San Antonio.
