Panther City Bicycles - Bikeshops, Fort Worth, Texas

DESCRIPTION

Panther City Bicycles was born when two local bike shop employees joined forces to open a unique kind of shop. A small shop with a pleasant atmosphere steeped in the rich, vibrant history of Fort Worth. We see the bicycle not only as the best form of exercise, but also as socially responsible transportation. Armed with this belief, we will be offering many services, from Sales and Repair to Courier.

We're cyclists first, so we only sell products and services we believe in, at fair and honest prices. If you shop on price alone, we may not always win your business. But if you value personal service, honesty, a handshake, and a laid-back atmosphere, stop by and visit us soon. Remember...a cold 6-pack of Fort Worth-brewed Rahr & Sons Blonde Lager (or your favorite microbrew) is always welcome, and may earn you a nice discount on your repair.

Last summer I took my old road bike to them. I try to do business with all the LBSs, and since they were the new guys, and I figured I was going to spend the money anyway, I would send them some business. In hindsight I should have gone to Bikes Inc or Cols. where I have bought my last two bikes.

I took my bike in for new cables and to get a shifter fixed. I told them that I couln't spend more that about $70 on it, and asked them to call me with an estimate when they figured out how to repair the shifter.

They never called.

When I called them I got an "oh, ya, it looks like it will be about $100 to fix everything." It seemed that I needed a new headset. That was OK, if I needed it, I needed it. But then they cut off new bar tape and charged me for replacement tape.

When I got my bike back...the bill was $125. I complained, but they just looked at each other, and took my check. No explanation, no apology.

And the icing on the cake...they showed me that my front tire had a bubble in it and they had not bothered to call and let me know...and the ice cream on top of the icing on the cake...MY SHIFTER STILL DOES NOT WORK!

I would love to see these guys succeed, but my experience with them was terrible.

Great shop with a very cool vibe. The owners are very helpful and are true bike lovers. Shop organizes some cool rides/events and they always have a local microbrew on tap for loyal customers.
