Dick's Sporting Goods - Bikeshops, Chattanooga, Tennessee

DESCRIPTION

The sell mostly Diamondback bikes,( which is a Raleigh bike) , they have got the best prices on any level of bike. There mechanic, David, is very good and knows everything you could possiable want to know about a bicycle. You need to talk to him though because he is the man. He told me that he has worked in several bike shops over the years and use to build wheels at the Litespeed factory. His 10 years of professional experience really shows, and if you talk to him you will see what I am talking about. I am very happy with my Diamondback response comp that I paid $550 for. I was going to buy another bike that was part for part the same thing for $900 from another local shop. I saved $300 and got 3 years of service for less. They have got this awesome warranty for $50 which includes 2 tune ups a year plus parts and labor for 3 years. If you want to get into mountainbiking, or need a new one, go there and talk to David, before you drop more dough on other brandnames of the same componet level and quality. Check it out, I am very glad that I stopped in and got that level of service from Dicks, I am very happy with Dick's Sporting Goods.

We carry the full line of Diamondback bicycles, even the Sorties and Missions. Great prices and a good selection.

Customer Service

Better than one may come to expect from a big store like this. Call ahead of time and ask for me, David, if you want the low down on the Sorites and Mission. I do own both a Mission and the limited Sortie Black! Love them both.

In regards to steriding issue at Dick's

Similar Products Used:

This is just a side note to steriding, most bike manufactures don't warranty hangers, when you call to get them replaced they give you a run around so I'm sure that's what the tech at Dick's is dealing with. If it isn't a defect Iron Horse (which dick's doesn't sell they are World Wide Cycles, same company that puts out the crappy Quest bikes you've seen there) you're aren't getting a part from them. Most hanger's break from improper shifting, twig/stick getting hung up in it, or laying the bike down over and over again bending it to the point when you shift into 1st the chain goes over the cassettes thus the derailluer gets hung up in the spokes and boom hanger bent/broke. None of those examples are the manufactures problem so they don't care. Your best bet is to go to www.derailluerhanger.com and order one yourself they give you a deal if you get 2 at a time because hangers breaking are common place for lots of bikes. (get a LightSpeed bike it'll be made of Titanium (hanger and bike) therefore much stronger than the aluminum hanger on your warrior and the bike would probably be 15lbs. lighter)

I was suprised to see a full service bike shop with a knowledgable bike mechanic. Not just some teenage kid that is too busy texting his babe.

Customer Service

I have visited Dick's for cloths and shoes many times. However, I would have never thought about buying a bicycle there. The looks of their bikes were cheep. However, while looking for inline skates for my daughter I was pleased to meet their Master Bicycle Tech. He was very knowledgeable about all bicycles and very honest about the "quality" of some of the models. Then we were able to find a Dianmodback comfort bike that was quality for the money. He went through the bike from top to bottom front to back. He needed to grease the wheel bearings and make a few adjustments. Then when I rode the bike this past weekend it was all worth it! The bike is solid and very smooth. I have recomended to all of my girlfriends to check the store out for bicycles. Even if you do have to drag your husband out of the Golf Pro Shop, it can be worth it.

Customer Service

Restrain my anger, A hanger they didn't have in the store took 3 weeks to order and i'm still waiting today. Talked to the manager and the only tech the store has. The tech doesn't care that I can't ride my bike and doesn't try to speed up the order. The manager doesn't know anything about bikes and gives me the run around to prevent me from calling the general manager. I asked if they would take the part off a bike in the store and the tech claimed not to have one. Not true I was there 2 days ago(asking about my bike) and they had 2 Iron horse Warriors on the floor and 6 IH Mavericks on the floor. I believe the the Maverick uses the same hanger. September weekend riding in great weather passes me by as I wait.

I wanted to get into the sport of mountain biking so, I visited all the local bike shops in Chattanooga, TN. I found the best bike for me was the Diamondback Response Comp. at Dick's Sporting Goods. The local bike shops had more expensive bikes with lower grade components (never could figure that out). The other reason I bought from Dick's Sporting Goods was the Bike Technician(Dave). Dave is VERY knowledgable about Diamondback products, mountian biking, the local mountain biking scene in Chattanooga and not to mention one heck of a technician. Also, it's a no-brainer to purchase the Service Plan for $50...I highly encourage it! I'm very happy with my Diamondback and the personal customer service from Dave!

There store is pretty cool. They have a wide selection of bikes from $100 to $2000. They mostly sell Diamondbacks, but carry some IronHorse Bikes as well as mongoose and schwinn. You can't beat the prices on there bikes. The selection and price of accessories is very competitive for the area and they have a very knowledgeable mechanic, David, who runs the bike department. I was in there the other night looking at some of their full suspension bikes and got on a couple of them to test ride them in the store. I figured that the bikes would have been put together by some kid who didn't have any skills, but to my surprise, they where tuned up perfectly and the disc brakes worked very well(no rubbing), gears shifted crisp and clean, and the headset wasn't loose( like some other local shops I visited recently). Then up walked this guy and asked if I would like any assistance with the bikes. So I started talking to him(David) about this and that. It was very clear that he(David) knew a lot about bicycles and rode mountain bikes as well. I was very impressed with David and his vast knowledge of bicycles. I actually learned something new about supsension set up among other things. I will be back to make my next bike purchase at Dick's.

Customer Service

The service offered on all there bikes is the same, free 30 tune up with purchase of a bike. $34.99 for a basic tune up. Plus a list of prices for any service you need, from tire/tube change to a complete overhaul for $60. There mechanic David is a super guy who can fix anything. You need to make sure you ask for him when you go in to Dick's. I was amazed at the extended warranty that Dick's offers on all thier bikes. I mean for 50 dollars you can get 3 years of parts and labor, unlimited repairs, and 2 free tune ups, that is so cool.

I you want a full suspension bike go check out the Mission from Diamondback @ $1650. It is a sweet ass bike for the money. I want to buy it so badly. Dick's has other nice models from Diamondback and Iron Horse for $500 and up. Best deal in town for my money at least if you are like me and want a sweet bike for under $2000.

Sorry, man. You got taken. The Diamondback is not equivalent of a $900 mountain bike. Here's the scoop: The Trek 6500 sells for $930 and is pretty much the industry average for that level. Here's a comparison:
*Frame: Trek 6500 vs. Response Comp - Similar = Tie
*Fork: Trek: includes lockout - Advantage: Trek
*Brakes: Trek: Hayes Hydraulic; DB: Avid Mechanical - Advantage: Trek
*Drivetrain: Trek: Shimano Deore/LX; DB: Sram SX-5/SX-7 - Advantage: Trek

The Diamondback is a good $550 bike for sure and I'd say you got your money's worth, because it's right on par with a Trek 4500 or Giant Yukon - Both about $500 bikes. But it is no $900 bike.

Shop around a little more next time and don't take anyone's word on something like that unless they're willing to take the time and actually show you the difference, side-by-side, spec-for-spec. In the world of bicycles, there is no short-cut to a lower-priced bike. You get what you pay for.

Customer Service

I was unimpressed when I visited the new store on Charlotte Pike. Actually, the sales people were asking ME questions about the bikes. I guess it was a slow day and when they saw a guy with shaved legs walk in the thought they'd get a little sales training...

Similar Products Used:

For entry-level bikes, you'll find fair deals. Their bikes are priced fairly, if not identical to the bike shops in town and the assembly seems to be average. However, if you're looking for something more than a bike just to ride around the block, it's time well spent to visit a bike shop or two before you make a buying decision to see what you're missing.
