The owner is some sort of megolomaniac. He runs his rides like a high school clique and needs to be the center of there attention. If you're not in with him then you are out. What he says goes. don't try to have your own opinion about other stuff that he doesn't sell, or that he likes but you do not.

Customer Service

Customer serice is average, nothing special.

The owner is no way the elite athlete he says he used to be. I don't think he every did any kind of event, competitive or joy ride. I think he just dangles expensive parts in your face and talks down to you to make your feel less and him feel bigger.

This shop, on the same site as the original before a teen in a car tore a hole through it!, is a spacious high-roofed building that is well thought out....there is plenty of room to swing a cat (even in the changing rooms. They offer kids, road, mtn, hybrids, cruisers, cross, and a decent womens section...the staff are a mix of dry, witty, intelligent, tall and not tall....after arriving in Erie and doing the rounds...this is the shop that I do bizniz with. (There was a mechanic who was too-cool-for-school a year or two ago, but he's a goner now.
Enter and Enjoy.

Customer Service

They are really attentive and friendly...and busy...that says a lot.

Awesome shop with tons of product to meet the needs of kids to full blown pro racers. They recently rebuilt the shop and it is incredible. Much nicer than any other bike shop within 100 miles of erie, and thats from someone who has dealt extensively with all of the other shops. The employees are serious cyclist, know what they are talking about/doing, and will talk with you for hours about everything bicycles. They will not BS you when it comes to your bike, what you need, or what else is out there on the market. They are head and shoulders above the other shops when it comes to knowledge, gear, skill, and personality. The shop does get BUSY on weekends and there is a reason for that, they are the best. However, once you get one of the guys to help you, they will work with you for hours if you need it and help you with everything. If they dont have what you want they will order it for you and have it there within a week. Do not bother with any other area shop, Comp Gear is your place.

Customer Service

A+, life long riders and long time mechanics. They know what they are talking about, know about all aspects of cycling, and will give you the time and attention you need to make sure you walk out stoked that you did business with them.

With all due respect to the other shops in Erie, this is top bike shop in Erie. They have a large selection of bikes from tricycles for the kids to top notch road and mountain racing bikes. The shop is staffed by knowledgeable riders, ranging from competitive racers to commuters. There new shop on W. 12th is impressive.

Customer Service

When I custom order parts, or leave my bike with them they are excellent at letting me know when its ready to pick-up. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

Don't know what the other reviewers are ranting about. I guess its your prerogative not to like someone, but don't disparage the shop because of it. By any metric, Competitive Gear is a top-notch bike shop. I regularly recommend it to people I meet and all have had positive experiences. They have a new, larger, facility which is spacious, clean and up-to-date. The only real problem your going to have is that it can get busy on the weekends because its such a popular shop.

I've been there more than once as well. What the hell is it about Trek bike shops that make the people work there seem like really arrogant jerks. Every single one I've been to in southern PA, and around the U.S. seem to have this "better then everyone" personallity.

Pretty much every time I've been there I always have to hear about how bad the bikes are that other bike shops carry. Then have to hear how they insult other riders in the area and shops as well. I've even was in the shop after someone just bought a bike and for some reason they felt comfortable enough to laugh and say very insulting things about that person. HELLO, they just bought a pretty decent bike IMOH, shouldn't you be thankful?

Customer Service

Yeah they fix bikes, and I'm sure they are beyond helpful and curtious when they want to sell you a bike. From what I've seen over time, I don't blame anyone for choosing mail order or ebay.

For how bad other bikes are compared to theirs. I've read that the bike company Giant makes almost all the Trek Bikes, except for one's costing over $3000. So in effect aren't Trek Bikes just as bad as the Giants then? Google it people, I did and was astonished at the results.

For the poster below, don't sink to their level, post once only.

Treks are nice, but not that nice, kind of plain looking. Greg Lemond being a jerk sure must be contagious. It seems to have been caught by the shops dealing them.

Customer Service

Definately Subpar. When I say I need the bike tuned up, I don't mean just the shifters. I thought I was pretty gosh darn clear, said the brakes aren't as grippy, and the wheels are not as straight as they used to be. I said give it what ever it needs, like new tires. Was expecting to pay about $100 bucks for the whole job at least, or more if needed. Got bike back, paid $30, WTF, what a great deal. Turns out bike was still not tuned up right. Tires and chain were awful, according to the other shop I went to. I got the my bike years ago when I lived out west, sorry that I didn't buy it from you. Sorry I didn't buy a new one, but have you seen the news lately on the economy. Probably not, to busy talking down to me as if I'm some sort of loser not worthy of your time, that's why you send some 16 year old to "Deal With Me". Yeah, I heard you afterall. Which is probably a joke to you, but it's all I have and can't "Retire it" yet. I have bills that keep getting higher too, so sorry.

I've been around many kids, taught many, and you sir(s) are definately bold face liars. I can see in your face with that crooked, cheesy, smiles, and your physical shape, that you guys are pretty much no better than dirty used car salesmen and don't know how to make ice from water. You couldn't even mount my cleats properly, thankfully I got that checked out in time before any serious damage was done. Turns out, you don't just get used to it, MORONS. Guess what, I'm getting a new bike now, but not from you, so keep those ugly plastic bikes, which I think you are, I haven't seen one out there that measures up to the level or riding you say you do.

A bunch of bike nerds hangin around with literature and wrenches in their hands trying to look busy. TOTALLY KIDDING. I have been going to this shop for all my service needs and my parts for over ten years. They treated me well from day one and even helped me with an essay i wrote in college. They carry mavic, trek, fisher, lemond and bontrager components to fill out the line. They will fit you well and be there for advice.

Customer Service

They have never let me down.

Great all around shop. All styles of bikes. Not just a snotty Roadie shop. Friendly staff. Their new location is a tad crowded, yet the new shop they are building is gonna be really cool!

Customer Service

Customer service is first class. Great knowledge of casual bikes right on to triathlon bikes. Service department is very good.

Trek makes nice stuff, too bad the shop that carries them doesn't measure up. Needs to back up what they say, I don't mean the customer service.

Customer Service

Great I thought, but then I realized that despite spend 2 G's on a bike doesn't get me a decent fitting to help me with perenial numbness and hand soreness. I have a new bike now that was fitted properly and fits me perfectly. They obviosly know how to put together bikes and fix them, but I think for the most part the job is half-@$$ed. Had a rear wheel fixed and still breaks spoke, got it looked at by another shop. Turns out they used too long spokes the last time. So the nipple couldn't grip the spoke enough since it protruded past the nipple.

The owner says he's some sort of former World Class Athlete. Sure as hell doesn't look like one, nor his friend. I never see them at any events. His reason for this is because the racers in our area are such awful racers that he had deemed then unworthy to race against, and fears that they may wreck out too much. UM OK, my guess. With all the big talk, someone doesn't want to walk the walk. And the bad racers will most likely not let them win races.

Put down been there once, because i don't do there anymore. decided to put this review on after getting the email that a friend in my cycling club was doing the same. to bad this is on a mountain bike website and not a road one since that's all i do is road biking. i heard this shop was the place to go to if you were serious about racing, they have a lot of nice stuff, but when you think about it, any shop can get what they get, aside from the trek bicycles. they can sell you a race bike is all they can offer as far as racing goes, i do both, i like to race and ride out in the country. not that i'm setting the roads on fire, but race as hard as i can.

Customer Service

i started on a trek, but since moved to another brand, since the new shop i go to, despite being way farther from me, knows there stuff. plus the employees are extremely nice, see them at the races getting in the top 10. plus i don't feel like i'm being talked down too. sort of like the cool people forming their own clique and i feel i need to measure up. competitive gear, when talking about other bikes, basically tells you that other bikes are crap. strange since people on crappy bikes, excuse my language, seem to be winning races that i don't think they even attend or have ever done. at least at my new shop, you can talk about bikes, and they even say that yeah x brand does make nice bikes, heck, they are big enough to admit that trek's are nice. though i'm sure it would be hard to dispute. also the shop down the street from competitive gear i think is a little better, but they don't really race either, john adams bikes. the owner is a chronic smoker, so that doesn't really inspire confidence. i think they just tell the customer what ever trek says in franchise info.

seems great at first, but then started getting the cold shoulder, which seems like they wanted me to know about it. most likely due to me wanting to spread my business around to other shops, i got rid of the trek. bike is only as good as the shop that sells it. sorry, but the other shops are really nice to, the shop and people working their. despite buying a bike or some part from another shop, the other shops still are nice. i'm sure they care, and wish that i got it from them, but it seems like it's an inconvenience to them to be mean. i guess they won't let something like that ruin their day. new shop thought sram stuff was great, competitive gear said as with everything they deem inferior, it's crappy. funny thing, the new astana team, which is basically discovery channel, uses sram. I was just trying to make chit chat, heck, maybe I would of bought a sram group, but who am I kidding, wife would kill me. I may go campy anyways and not tell her, road bikes look the same to her. He he.
