Shop is small but he stock LOTS of Bike and Accessories. His assembly Corral is small, but it doesn't slow down assemblies or repairs.

The Original Bike Shop is a great place to start, in search of Bikes, Gear, or just Bike knowledge. I've been a Happy Customer for many years. Never felt rushed, mislead, or cheated. Mel is an intelligent and personable guy and he's gone as far as to give me samples (Seats, Bars, Accessories) to try for a short period, which is more than fair. If your shopping for accessories, Mel's got them!

My boyfriend bought me a bike for Christmas and to his embarrassment, purchased a bike from a major department store that had put it together "all kinds of wrong." On Christmas morning he opened the garage door and I found a beautiful bike with a big red bow and a flat tire.
We took the bike to the original bike shop in saddle brook on route 46, Mel, the owner greeted us immediately and diagnosed much more than a flat tire on the death trap that had been given to me.
Mel said we could wait for the service but we chose to run errands instead.
Upon returning, Mel had changed two faulty tire inserts, turned the front tire the right way, fixed my non-functioning breaks and placed the bike on a trainer to educate me on my new bike.
They just don't make customer service like this anymore and it was an absolute pleasure to meet Mel. As I am new to the biking world, I am unsure if what he charged us for his detailed inspection and repair were appropriate, but it seemed like pennies compared to what the hospital bills may have been should I have had a major accident. I have no doubt that my boyfriend and I will return here in the future for our biking needs.

Buy a good bike from a reputable bike shop and you will have a great experience for your entire cycling life.

I started going to this shop about 30 years ago when my son was first into BMX riding. At that time, Mel sold me a quality bike at a fair price. He backed up my purchase with good service when ever I needed it.

Over the years since, I've purchased other bikes and various bike related products from this shop. I've always been treated fairly and professionally. When you talk to the Mel who is the long time owner, it's like having a "friend" in the bike business.

I have always respected Mel's recommendations, and would definitely recommend this shop.

I always go in wanting something I did research on and am comfortable with. Then im steered in a different direction. For any beginners beware, mel is going to use his cheap car salesmen method on you. He's going to want to sell you somthing that will drop in price if he doesn't get it off his floor soon. He Doesn't treat his customers fairly and has bad people skills. How can he (the shop owner) ignore a paying customer. Beware, and make sure you do research that way you wont leave his store with whatever he tricked you into getting. All the other employees are very friendly and helpfull. Suck they have such a terrible boss. Bike shops who barely stay afloat should try to conduct honest business habits.

This is the best bike shop experience I have ever had. The owner is amazing, and he is a walking advertisement for the health benefits of cycling, he looks 20 years younger than he is.
He knows everything there is to know, and better yet is a passionate cyclist. He has been at this for 37 years so this is the place to buy your bike. Can't say enough about the knowledge and service here, and is totally staying on top of the current trends including adding on an electric
bike conversion kit to make your bike into a commuters dream...e-bikes are the future.

I love this shop. Mel and his wife are great. Years ago when I went looking for bikes for my kids, I dropped in a few different shops in the area. One was run by a foreign guy clearly uninterested in helping me pick out a bike. One was just plain useless. But Mel clearly wanted to help me. Since then we've been back for bikes for me and my wife as well as new bikes as the kids outgrow the old ones. Mel and his staff of bike rats are always maximally helpful, even for dopey things like helmets that have lost their clips. Great for tune-ups, too.

Sure, you can get bikes cheaper elsewhere, like at Toys 'R' Us. A friend of mine bought a bike for his kid where they'd assembled the handlebars on backwards -- just what you want from your bike store, right? You may pay more at Mel's, but it's worth it. You can always hand the bikes down to another kid.

Mel has been great. I bought a new bike 2 years ago and love it. Been in for servce a 5 times and was happy with speed, price and quality. Had warrenty issue after 1 1/2 years and Mel chased down the factory rep and took care of everything.

Pretty decent place, I bought a bike that I did not like and they took it back as a trade in for a new one...generally very helpfull guys.

The moment you step into the shop you are in awe, bikes everywhere. The shop leans toward Giant, Mongoose, Scwhinn, and Gt bikes. Everything you need is in this store. It helps beginners get into the game and experienced ones equipped with the latest technology aswell as improve on strenght and conditioning.

Aside from the bikes you see drapping down from every wall, you'll see the owner Mel and maybe two young guys working on the bikes. The shops garage is quite busy but they will make time for the customer. Mel is the best bike salseman in the business and you can tell he has a passion for cycling. He's like an old friend you never had, you can talk to him about anything and not just bikes. He gets you on a bike by simply asking questions. Your answers is a direct reflection of your bike, lifestyle, and most importantly budget. You will get your moneys worth.
