Chainwheel Drive is mostly a road bike store/service shop. While their selection of road bikes seems large they carry very few brands of mtbs, and the ones they do carry are grossly overpriced. The service department is lacking as well, I brought in a new rs pike 454 shock to be installed on a new frame and they somehow managed to cut the steer tube to short even though I showed them exactly where to cut. They did repair the mistake at no charge of course but set me back a week i could have been riding my new bike. Like their bikes, parts and service are overpriced.
They are also in no rush to actually do any work it seems, telling customers that services will be complete in days if we can get around to it. (WTF right)

Customer Service

Overall the sales staff understand the meaning of customer service, unlike the service department. They are like vultures and if you walk around the store though "is their anything I can help you find?" over and over.

If your a roadie I imagine you will love this place, if your a mountain biker go somewhere else like the energy conservatory in Dunedin, or do your own bike work and save your self the money and time of having them 3 stoog your bike.

P.s Do everything in your power to keep the bald mechanic away from your whip, if you like your whip.

Nice enough shop. Seemed well stocked.

Customer Service

I have visited this establishment 3 times during the past 5 years. In all cases they proved to be absolutely the rudest, most condescending, obnoxious little know-it-alls that we've ever encountered in any type of business..EVER! They throw what little knowledge they might possess around as if it was gospel from the very lips of the bicycle gods. Ridiculous & childish. The owner/Mgr. apparently has such a slim employee pool to pull from that he's forced to hire those who are unable to spell customer service, let alone perform it. Save the aggravation. Go elsewhere.

Love it....Have built a bike for me and it had been A++++....Bringing another bike there tomm. Love the staff, selection and recommend it to everyone I know. You have to beleive if the service and selection were like as the second reviewer stated. They would not have been there since 1972.

Very clean place. Cant miss the yellow building. Well layed out.

Customer Service

Pretty good overall. Sometimes they can be pushy. But theyre more than willing to let you ride whatever you want within reason. A little pricey but thats what you pay for convenience.

They have some cool stuff, but don't ask them to service it.

Customer Service

I think this has to be one of the most incompetent shops I been to in a very long time. You would think in this age of internet, bike shops would try harder to educate their staff. If you are a person who knows nothing about the bike you ride, try and get a job at Chainwheel Drive, you may be more qualified. I hear their other location is somewhat better. Not sure I want to take the chance. I've heard from others in the community of the lack luster skill, unfortuneatly I had to find out myself.

Overall good selection for cross-country. Many sizes in full suspension for small people like me! All types of clothing, camelbak stuff, tires.

Customer Service

There are a couple of mountain bikers that work there now and they know their stuff. While I was in there a guy was selling a Demo 9! They let me check it out...heavy! Definetly not my type of ride but cool to get to check one out in person. The sales guys were not pushy at all. I went in said I wasn't buying and they still spent time answering questions, letting me test ride bikes. I like going in there.

Honestly speaking i tihnk this is one of the worst shops in the area as far as anything mountain bike and service. The shop it self is very clean and tidey. There is mainly cross country, road, and cruisers, aswell as tandems. They have one sx trail at their clearwater shop and nothind for freeride or downhill at their other one in palm harbor. The sales men are knowledgable to a certain extent. They can be helpful at times but in the end they just try to sell you the next, more expensive and un neccesary model. Ive seen some women come in looking for a simple cruiser and they sell them a 2,000 dollar cross country bike. In my oppinion its rediculous

Customer Service

The service is horrible from what i've experienced. The prices are outrageous for a tune-up and the floor salesmen could barely help me out. They just tried to get me to buy the next best model of whatever I looked at. I asked one of the mechanics if they had the park headset cup remover for 1.5 headtubes and the mechanic replied word for word "We usually just take a long screwdriver and hit it out". I dont know about other people but ide rather not have a screwdriver beating around on my turners headtube! Im not trying to bash this shop in anyway but from my experiences the shop is geared more for roadies and your average joe. I also called the shop in palm harbor to get see if they had an 8-spline bb tool adn they said yes we have one in stock. I went to the shop. Not only did i have to wait for 30 minutes to be asked what i needed but they didnt even have the tool!

Clean, nice and friendly are the first words that come to mind. They carry a nice selection of high-line mtb's and road bikes.

Customer Service

These guys have been on point with every suggestion and sale everytime. Thier sevice department is excellent and didn't complain when I asked them to install a fork that I didn't by from them. I've spent a lot of money at both locations of this bike shop and will continue to do so. I ride with alot for bikers and I whenever I hear them complain about other bike shops I always recommend Chainwheel to them!

I live 40 minutes away from thier shop and have three bike shops that are closer but I know that the extra drive time will be worth it.

Customer Service

Great service at both locations-eager to listen, help and just talk bikes-service dept. is great, very knowledgeable, never a bad repair here.

I have been using both shops for about 6 yrs. now-have bought quite a few bikes from them(and referred a few,too)...a really well run operation that takes care of you..which iswhat a great LBS should do-highly recommended!
