Black Mountain Bicycles - Bikeshops, San Diego, California

DESCRIPTION

A great, family-owned/-operated shop. A decent selection of bikes/parts with knowledgable and friendly staff. Great service department that doesn''t try to upsell. They have clothes and other gear, too.

Customer Service

I work on bikes from the 70's to mid 80's as a hobby. I have several bikes from the period, and they come and go. A couple of times I took some forks in to remove bearing races. They did it while I waited at no charge! I bought a bike from Lynskey a few months ago and had a problem with the front shifter / lever. Even though I didn't buy the bike at Black Mountain, Matt in the shop contacted SRAM and I got a replacement shifter, plus a new shifter for the rear to make sure everything would match. Parts under warranty, except I paid them for installation - at a very reasonable price. Well worth it - I expect Lynskey would have also been very supportive, but this was probably more convenient. Also, I have used these folks off and on going back 30 years. I've always been treated well.

I take a deep breath every time I walk in here as the vibe is just too skeevy for me to stomach. The fake teeth gritting niceness of the English lady and the overall contempt the rest of the staff has for the customers is too much for me to take.
I usually hold my breath, make my purchases and get the heck outta there.

The tension in the air is very real, like walking into a dysfunctional home and I always unload a big sigh when I walk out of this place.

The place is nicely laid out and the selection is OK but their prices have always been over priced.
I only come here if I absolutely have to buy needed parts preferring to drive much further for better and more welcoming experience like Bike Empire in Poway.

Customer Service

One young guy in service was excellent once and genuinely seemed interested in helping customers but the other regular service guys are too full of themselves to ever humble themselves to the level of lowly customers to be of any help.

The bloated, unshaven service guy has to always make it a point to let you know he was a sponsored somesuch rider at one point but obviously is more in love w/Doritos and his couch now since that awesome sponsorship deal fell through, instead chose to criticize and mock some component choice I had made.
The only redeeming quality about this place is that it's next to Trader Joe's.

BMB is a nicely laid out store carrying mostly Trek and Specialized bikes both road and MTB. They have an awesome selection of bikes, clothing, shoes, and accessories. Prices are close to retail, but you'll find a deal if you look through their website. If they don't have the bike instore, they'll be sure to order it for you as well.

Customer Service

Brian, the owner is awesome. Very understanding of a new rider. When i bought the bike I get two free tune ups within the first six months of owning the bike. Any question i had, they were able to answer it appropriately along with confidence. They showed me everything about my bike.

Like they say friendly family owned, bought three bikes here.

I have bought three bikes from here, liked the family environment. I have had my Fisher here several times the past couple of weeks, first was a tune up. Same day brought it back rear tire blew out on the car rack. Finally got it out on the trails, front tire goes out same day! Following week, after I get my bike back from from these clowns again, shifters quit working 4 miles into the ride and a pedal falls off a mile later. All of these were worked on by the service staff. I know sounds like a movie, but it really happened, I wont be back. I am now the proud owner of a new Trek I bought some where else. Two words BUYER BEWARE!

This shop is terrible with service. They do not seem to care about customers enough to even listen if they have a concern. They will tell you pretty much anything on the phone to get you in and then to change the story.

Customer Service

HORRIBLE! No other word in my vocabulary than horrible would better describe the workers attititude towards customers at this shop. They will never make a penny from me ever.

Used to be better. Workers do not seem to care about the customers any longer. Management does not seem to be bothered with concerns.

Customer Service

Horrible! It takes me a while to get upset enough to say a shop is horrible and write a review but workers at this shop have certainly convinced me to say they are horrible. I will never go back in for anything including servie even if it means to drive 3 times further.

Pretty good selection of bikes in wide range of pricing. Selection of accessories is not too bad. Pricing is about 10-30% more than what you can get over the internet or at other bike shops.

Customer Service

It takes a lot for me not to go back to a store, but these guys have done enough for me not to go back. Their customer service is like Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde. Their Service guys are awesome, but there sales guys are pretty bad. I go there for both things and I expect to get quality for both. I'm willing to pay extra (and you will and Black Mountain Bike) because the shop is convenient and in the neighborhood, but I can't take there snooty attitude anymore.

Shop around, Black Mountain Bikes isn't the only shop in town; even though they act like it is.

Good sized shop, lots of bikes mostly Specialized and Gary Fishers but now they also carry Yeti's and Pivot's. Carry Yakima, no Thule.

Customer Service

Customer service is a hit or miss. Some days they are cheerful others they don't want to be bothered. I use to frequent the shop once or twice a month. North-of-the-Border bike shop is getting more of my business now.

The shop has a great selection for the size both mountain bikes and road.

Customer Service

Hit and miss... I went in here twice in the last few months and couldn't get anyone to help me. looked like 4 or 5 guys working but they were too busy chit chatting with their buddy to help a customer. Sad thing is the reason I went in here was based on the phenomenal info and input I got talking with one of their technical guys over the phone. Unfortunately, in person they were nowhere near this helpful in person

BAsed on the conversations I've had with them over the phone they definitely have the technical knowledge, but if I go into the shop and noone is there to help me (especially when I'm looking at high end MTBs!!) you've just lost a big sale.
