Today the wife on and I decided to drive out to halfmoon bay and ride the coastal trail at the state park there. Well...all went as planned until somehow my wifes bike came off the rack on the freeway and fell, luckily the safety strap caught it and all it did was drag behind the car at 70 mph instead of pummeling the cars behind us. I thought our day would be ruined but thanks to bike works it was saved! He trued both wheels and were bought a seat to replace the newly road rashed stock unit. Great customer service, very knowledgeable and friendly people and an excellent deal on tbe work and seat we had done. If you guys read the forum here...THANK YOU, you saved my wife and I's first trail ride together!

I am surprised there are not many reviews (so far) about the Bike Works. I purchased a new Ibis from them. I also have much experience with other bike shops around the Bay Area, from throughout the North Bay to the Peninsula. I have had about 10 "elite" mountain bikes built up by various shops, and the reason I have had the Bike Works build up 4 of them is that they are by far the best. They are also somehow the least expensive, being extremely honest about how I can achieve new technical ride qualities of a bike in the most cost effective manner. Their personalities are all great and they readily share their expertise and suggestions. It's a real biking community, and right in the Mtn. Biking heartland of California - the Peninsula Coastside!

Customer Service

Absolutely the finest. Fun and experienced owners ready to share their knowlege (and sometimes their bikes).

Cyclists here are lucky having such a great resource. I've been dealing very regularly with this shop since it opened and have always had a great experience. Aside from normal maintenance items, I also occasionally need special order items or expert service on the classic Italian road bikes I restore. Chris and Matt always come through even on some of my rather bizarre mechanical service needs. They're also quite willing to special order items for me that almost no shop would normally ever carry.

Customer Service

Tops - A+ - Friendly staff - Highly recommended.

I have purchased a number of items...tires, tubes, tire pumps etc. over the past 6 years.

My most recent experience was abhorant and indicative of proprietors who really do not understand the nature of "customer service and good business practices. Upon attempting to fix a broken spoke, I observed one of the owners accidentally puncture the tube during the repair process. I told him I would come back later to pick up the repaired tire. When I returned, he was gone but I was informed that he charged me, not only for labor and parts to repair the spoke but also for the tube. When I complained the employee called the owner who cancelled the charge for the tube.He also cancelled a $5 discount on service so the bill was essentially the same. When I asked about this convuluted logic I was told since "I complained about the tube, they were going to cancel the $5 discount on service" which made the bill essentially the same. In other words, I should have let them charge me for their mistake and I could have gotten a discount on the service work.

These guys havve a lot to learn about customer service

Excellent shop in Half Moon Bay. It serves everything from your mountain bike racers to just needing a tire fixed on your kids bike. The owners (Chris and Mike) along with Ryan and Sean are very passionate about biking and deliver great customer service. They want to make sure you get what you need and never over sell you anything.

this extreme bike selling outlet convinced me to purchase a raleigh "gritstone" which may i add is a "get in and have it " bike. my favourite part was where they neglected to fully weld the down tube of the frame to the main upright. although it is a distant memory whenever i shut my eyes i still have minor flashbacks to the seperation of these two major components during a downhill 35mph race. thank god i came equiped with a stretcher and leg brace in my back pack!!. on the whole a light weight well thought out machine that was served me well (and kept the local A&E department in buisness).. if only they had not been allowed to drink copious of alcohol at the factory where this "weapon" was created. really kids go back to 1993 and get one for christmas, they ROCK..

Up to date, latest proven technology inventory. Qualified ,competent,
knowledgable and friendly staff that live and know bicycles. Prices reasonable, not overinflated. Did I mention trustworthy.Awesome, hand made sign! This shop is first class!

Customer Service

Great, the only shop within 60 miles of where I live(SF Bay Area, one of the most populated areas in the country) that was willing to help me find a 1" suspension fork for my old Merlin Titanium Mountain frame, rather than try to sell me a new bike or tell me my $1800 titanium frame was obsolete as every other shop I had been to had. I also had them custom lace a rear wheel about five years ago that I am still riding on and is still straight with a few minor truings. I do a lot of jumping too!

As an X-racer (BMX long ago)who used to get parts for free or heavily discounted, and is used to building my own bikes I am very particular about where I shops , and don't want the irritation of someone who knows less about bicycles than I do telling me or deciding for me what I need to buy.
This is one of the few shops that I enjoy spending time in and hate to leave!

The Bike Works is my shop of choice and in my opinion the best shop on the coast. The owners Matt and Chris are knowledgeable in both sales and repairs. They shop has a good selection of up scale off road machines, as well as selections for the new cyclist or your kids. The shop is also well stocked with accessories of all types. The road bikes are currently a bit scarce but they do intend to build on this market.

Customer Service

The Bike Works is all about costumer service and the reason I am taking the time to write this review. The staff is always curtious. Matt is knowledgeable in all aspects of bike repairs. From a basic tune-up to the more advanced bike set up, custom built wheel sets or suspension repairs they can handle it.
Rest assures that if the Bike Works repairs your bike it will be done right! Unfortunately I can't say the same about the local Pacifica shops!
