My family exclusively road Cervelo bikes when I moved to Manitoba 5 years ago. We have now switched to all Felt and Specialized bikes simply for the reason that Alter Ego is the primary dealer of Cervelo in Winnipeg. We have purchased 4 bikes since living here and I went to Alter Ego first on each occasion. Every time they blew it with pushy and rude sales people.

I was very impressed with the selection and the web site.

Customer Service

I had the BEST employee ever helping me out with a bike. He did not seem bothered to spend a fair amount of time having me try out bikes and answer all my newbie question. I actual did not buy a bike the first time I was there, he incouraged me to shop around, I did and no other shop really measured up. I am more than happy with my bike and my experience!

I don't really like writing reviews but I really appreciated reading other people's opinions on the bikes and shops so I figured I should do the same.

I bought a Madone 5.2 at Alter Ego summer 2011. The selection was really good for the price range I was considering. Lots of makes/models to choose from. Tons of peripheral gear too.

Customer Service

The staff is very knowledgeable. They measured me & figured out which models in my price range would be suitable for my dimensions. I tested the bike I liked the best & ended up buying it. The followup service was good too as I needed some tweaking to the front derailleur a number of times as the cables stretched. I also managed to flat about 10x that summer & initially I received free replacement tubes until they found some crap in the wheel liner & removed that. Then I finally switched to a Gatorskin tire & my flats ended.

I'd recommend this store to anyone who wants a high end bike and wants to choose from a large selection. If they'd accept trades I'd consider upgrading my 5.2 for a 6.9 or a Tarmac but I'll be fine with this bike. It's a lot of fun to ride.

Large shop since they expanded. Excellent selection of all the things you need for biking. Easy to find what you're looking for on the floor. Clothing, shoes, clips, computers, all within eye line once entering the store. Their prices are competitive. They are open good hours. They are involved in the cycling community here in Winnipeg.

Their website provides excellent resources and information for new and experienced cyclists. Their site is also frequently updated and they maintain a blog to keep in touch with their community. Many other shops in the city don't provide this service.

Customer Service

I've visited this shop about 7-8 times. Each time I've been assisted immediately upon coming into the store. I can't say the same for other shops I've visited. The staff was knowledgeable and helped me a great deal to make good decisions on the products I purchased. I ordered a bike that they didn't have in stock and it arrived on time. After a while I brought the back for servicing as per their policy of giving a free tune-up with new bikes. The service was again good, they even fixed my wife's old supermarket special bike and made it ride like new.

Later when I purchased new tires better suited for commuting, they helped me weigh the pros and cons of the choices and made the decision easy.

I keep returning to the store and finding their service excellent. Even though there are other shops closer to my work and home. The staff are avid cyclists and it shows.

Just another bike shop.

Customer Service

Hit and miss, it depends who you talk to.
Some guys act as if they have some kind of butt plug, some are great and friendly.

The owner seems pretty confrontational. A couple of the employees are really great, some need an attitude adjustment.
I'm young but I know my stuff and I dont like it when people try to make me look like an idiot. It happens here.
And follow up service is a joke. Here, take my money and now you can treat me like garbage.

Mixed sport shop with bikes, skis, snowboards and paintball stuff.

Customer Service

I've had mixed communication with this store. When I initally bought my bike the service and staff were great. After winter, I came in for my free tune up and the mechanic caught a couple unsafe part installs and fixed them which I'm grateful for, who knows how long till something bad happened. In writing, however, it was stated I'd be told if I was getting upcharged before any ancillary repairs. I wasn't told, I'm almost broke and the shop owner and I had a pretty big argument on the floor about it. Basically, I expect good businesses to honor their agreements and I was extremely unhappy with how haphazardly the owner of this store treated his own policies.

Maybe most of this shops customers don't stick up for themselves, but I did, so egos clashed. How can I trust this store again? I can't...

Very good when it comes to knowledge and fit. Good at answering questions. Not always clear with procedure.

Customer Service

My Wife and I have had nothing but problems with this bike shop. We were told something that we had purchased would be ready the next day so we came back. It will be ready in 2 days... Once again came back in 2 days. Got atitude because it had not been done... Came back in another 2 days still not done. Told them we needed the product because we were headed out of town. The manager syas "oh why didnt you say so". 5 min later we were walking out the door with product in hand. I think when you have spent $4000.00 anywhere you should be shown a little respect. Not treated like an idiot. Everytime we showed up there everyone acted so defensive we felt like they were always hiding something.

I have heard other stories from friends as well and they will not go there for the same reasons they have also spent a good $3000+ and are not happy.

If someone is buying a $5.00 part or a $10,000.00 bike you should show them the same respect and courtesy

It doesnt matter how smart and good someone is at something. If you dont feel comfortable and are made to feel like an idiot or like you are inconveniencing someone then there is no point in waisting your time...
