Strength:

I have the 2017 version with a 140mm RockShox fork. Came from an 04 Turner Burner which is a great machine. I love the new geometry and to my light body the travel seems endless. The aggressive lines I can climb are far above what the 26" wheeled Burner would clean.

Weakness:

Haven't found any other than it not being as light as aCannondale.

Strength:

Near perfect execution of a mountain bike. Everything form the bearings to the cable routing to the location of the seatpost clamp slit is idea. Not a single thing do I question why it was done that way.

Weakness:

No internal dropper post routing, at least in the 3.0 version.

This is for the Flux 3.0 with 27.5 wheels and 120mm travel.

I wanted an agile bike that climbed well and was low maintenance. I got so much more. This bike does everything well. On my tight local trails it is nimble, but on more gravity oriented trails it still feels stable. Adding a dropper has made this a real blast downhill and has inspired me to up my skills to keep up with the bike.

I super appreciate the details of this bike. The grease injected journal bearings, the threaded cable guides in single and double sided flavors, water bottle mounts, availability of offset shock mounts, and online parts sales from their Web site.

Looking forward to years of riding the Flux.

the first bike I have felt like I was riding "in" not "on"!!!! the dw link is great and when standing climbing I feel no loss of power. The bike wants to turn and has super handling..the shorter stem and longer bars take some getting used to but when you do, look out. I am 64 and with this bike I feel I am only going to get faster at this ripe old age. Bike with xt build with pedal and computer is 27# even....thank you Dave Turner and Eric for helping me get the correct setup on the shock and fork........ride on

I love this bike!!! been riding Giant Anthems since 07 and Fisher sugar before that...they are good bike and no complaints but this Flux feels like I went to the factory was measured and it was built
JUST FOR ME!!!!!! You can buy it lighter but this set up is awesome. XT from the factory and the brakes are killer.....

This is for a Flux 3.0. I wrote the review in the new 27.5 section, but adding it here:

I own a 4-bar 2008, 26'er Flux, and just replaced it with the Flux 27.5. The bike feels similar to my old Flux, but does everything better. Everything.
I was worried that my new flux would be tougher to muscle through switchbacks because it has a longer wheelbase, and I was worried the front end would slide on the uphill switchbacks because of the slacker head angle. Not the case at all. I am just grinning at the ease of carving down, and dicing up, switchbacks vs. my old Flux.And, my old flux was a great climber and very nimble.
Climbing is amazing. The larger wheels combined with the DW/Fox suspension allows me to just roll up and over stuff I usually pick my way around. I am just faster on the new Flux.
Descending is very familiar feeling, and my Flux allows me to feel comfortable railing turns, leaned over and committed. The suspension tracks and the frame is stiff. I have the TALAS fork, and the 140mm is awesome for descents. I do climb in the 120 length, however.
I have the XL, anodized frame. I have the Turner XT kit, with Enve XC wheels upgrade.
I am 6'2", 175lbs. The bike fits me well and I like having the TALAS to bring the hand position up. THe kit comes with a flat Thomson bar and 0 degree rise, 80mm Thomson stem. If I did not have the TALAS, I would probably fly a riser bar or 10 degree stem, because I have long legs that would leave me with a 3" drop from saddle to stem. But, with the TALAS, I have a reasonable drop, and can lower the front for the extended climbs. I took about 3/4" off each end of the bar and may take some more off, and go to a 100mm stem, since the new style of super-wide bars is just not for me. The bar is 720mm stock. It is a trend that I am not totally down with. But, I am going to try it the way Dave and crew spec it.
I did not have a chance to demo the bike because no local shops stock it. But I decided to trust that Dave Turner created a better version of my beloved Flux, and bought it on faith.
Lastly, this bike was not only designed in the USA, but also welded by men and women in the USA. It matters to me that in the creation of my machine, a wage was earned in the USA. I would love a carbon Turner, and one day I might get one. But I was able to get an XL, aluminum, hand-made, sexy-welds frame that weighs a hair over 6 lbs. 6. Many/most? XL carbon frames weigh almost as much or more. AND, I don't have to sweat every frickin' time I raise a wrench to it on the trail, fearing the dreaded carbon crack of over-tightening.

Strength:

Light but very strong frame. DW link handles very well on most trail terrain. Climbs great and was very easy to feel confident with what it can handle. Small hops and jumps were no problem. Lots of detail and planning on this bike and it shows.

Weakness:

Coming from bigger bikes I felt the wideness of the handlebars took some time getting use to, but other than that, I couldn't find anything wrong at all.

I rode this at a demo day recently and I am switching from a downhill bike, so I wanted to see how a lighter trail bike feels. What I like most about this bike was the suspension and responsiveness which climbs really well but can handle hits like bikes with more travel very well. I never rode a Turner bike before and definitely has caught my attention as I'm looking for a trail bike. Also it's made in the USA which is good too.

This bike climbs like a mountain goat and descends like a bike with much more travel! The DW link is the best suspension system I have ridden. The rear triangle, 44 head tube and 142x12 rear axle make this bike so solid of a performer on single track and rough terrain I come home from a ride impressed every-time.....

Weakness:

None! If you plan to build this bike to race be careful of parts selection...it will end up on the high end of 25 pounds. If you use XC selection it will be mid 24.

The Flux is a solid performer offering great climbing, descending and razor sharp handling in tight / rough single struck. The Flux has 4"of travel, but rides and handles like a bike with much more. The more I ride this bike the more I enjoy and look forward to the next ride! I purchased the frame directly from Turner in October 2012 with a Fox 120 mm fork and I built it up with XTR shifters and drivetrain, Mavic Crossmax ST wheel set and Avid XO brakes. If you are looking for a bike that is solid, great suspension and a top performer this is your choice,

Trouble with Formula brakes but not a Turner related issue

Was looking for a solid and quality build full suspension frame for XC all around MTB usuage. Due to my advancing years, I decided to rule out the DH/free ride oriented rigs of my 20 year ago bike days. I did at one time own an RFX (1997-98!?!?) and have always admired DT and his products, but in the 90s I was a die hard Foes fan. Fast forward to 2012. I am fortunate to be able to pick up this 2010 Turner Flux. It is excellent in just about every way. I did have issue with Formula rx brake squeal and misalignment, but that was probably due to poor installation/adjustment which has been currently rectified. The bike is just plain fantastic and fun to ride.

Great climber. Great descender. Superb frame - very stiff, sorted geometry. Very comfortable to ride. Excellent suspension, really feels like it has way more than 110mm. Fast, fast, fast. Good in bed. Fun, fun, fun. Relatively light, yet feels like a solid, dependable beast. A bit too heavy for some, but rides like a bike weighing pounds less. Corners on rails, fast and twitch when needed, dependably solid and true when needed. It's basically not just a jack of all trades, it's a master of most of them too!

Weakness:

Really having to try hard here. Agree that the cable routing and the hack on the front derailleur aren't ideal (though the former has improved considerably since the first DW-Link one in 2009. Fact is though that it all works just fine, so nothing more than cosmetic and one for the anally retentive to get worked up about. So the only thing I can maybe fault, is that with the lower bottom bracket (12"8) you are susceptible to pedal strike. The trail that I was on was very rocky, very eroded, very steep and - above all - very narrow. The others were getting strikes as well, but it was worse for me (see below). That said despite the fact that my feet kept getting kicked off the pedals, I was still keeping up with much bigger bikes.

This is a rock solid, very fast bike, that is capable of handling terrain way more demanding than you would be led to believe. It's suspension works flawlessly, absorbing the hits and equally at home on chatter as it is in rock gardens, roots and rubble. It climbs superbly and has a confident planted feel on the downhills. In fairness it's not a 170mm enduro-type machine, but then its not meant to be. I've got a DW-Link 5.Spot (a great bike too) and it handles pretty much everything that the 5.Spot is designed to deal with, at least as well and probably faster. If you have budget for the one bike to join them all, you could do a lot worse than spend it on the Flux.

I bought mine recently (got a 2011 frame half-price). Spent a day on it in the mountains of North Wales (very rocky, very steep, incredibly narrow singletrack and very very very wet). Was with three other riders, one on a Spesh Enduro, one on a long-travel hardtail and one on a Stumpy with 140mm at both ends. The terrain was incredibly hard, the trail had been eroded beyond belief by the rains over the last few months and the reality was that the Flux not only held its own, it was for the most part quicker and I found myself "up the arse" of my mate on the Enduro, whereas previously on my 5.Spot he would be quicker. Can't emphasise how difficult this terrain was, rocks and roots everywhere, 2 foot drops into rock gardens, trail had become a small river in places, erosion everywhere. Certainly 5.Spot, AM territory, but the Flux dealt with it all easily and put the bigger bikes to shame.

I am really sold on the dw link suspension. It gives you all the goodness of a full suspension bike: eating bumps, without the badness: power robbing pedal bob. You can definitely tell the difference between the ride quality vs other designs. The bike climbs with ease and lets you really put the power down when needed. You can easily jump out of the saddle without feeling like it is a waste. The rearend eats up pumps and it does not send any unwanted feedback up to the rider. It is really hard to feel the suspension working, but it is. Very smooth. The bike corners very well and responds well rider input. You can really push the bike hard into a turn with little fear of loosing control. The head angle is steeper than most full suspension bikes, but that is one of things I like. It is very fast in the tight turns and responses very predictably. The rear disc mount is a nice feature and looks very clean. Fit and finish is very good. Frame and especially the rear end are super stiff.

Weakness:

So I agree the front derailleur hack is kinda dumb, but the space is limited so what can you do. Max rear tire being a 2.2, which is tight, kinda sucks, but it is a xc bike. If you ride in muddy conditions, the frame does seem to catch and hold a lot of mud in the rear links. Hard to really find anything wrong with this bike.

If you are looking for more of a trail bike, this is probably not the bike for you. If you are a xc rider, especially if you have been riding old school hard tails, this is the bike for you. It is fast, light, and expects a pilot that knows how to ride to get the most out of the bike. I guess by today's standards this is short travel, but it feels like more than four inches. I have been riding over some pretty good drops and rocky terrain. This is all the travel I would ever want. The pedal efficiency is just awesome and the handling is spot on. Turner quality and customer service, plus it is made in America. Can't beat that!
