from Boca Raton, Fl U.S.A Date Reviewed: April 6, 2008 | | Favorite Trail: | Oleta River State Park | | Duration Product Used: | Less than 1 month | | Price Paid: |
$2500.00 | | Purchased At: | Racer's Edge, Boca Raton, Fl | | Strengths: | Fit and finish, Build Quality, Attention to detail, That rear shock and man does she look sweet. | | Weaknesses: | None so far, except for maybe the price. It's a lot of ching but if you want to be a baller..... | | Similar Products Used: | Uzzi,Bullit,Heckler | | Bike Setup: | Curnut coil with steel spring, Fox 36 Talas, Sram XO trigger and rear derailuer, XT cranks, Chris King Wheels, Chris King HS, Thomson Post and Neck, Easton carbon bars, 959peds, Kenda Nevegal 2.35, Avid Juicy Seven's | | Bottom Line: | Bike was just delivered on friday and put 22 miles on it sat. I brought someone along with me and let them borrow my now Retired Bullit. About halfway through the ride I realized I was clearing everything and having an awesome ride. I could claw up any hill from a standstill and hit any drop like it didn't exist. I just figured I had that New Bike Smell feel going on. I decided to swap with my buddy on my Bullit on one of the trails. What a flaming piece of crap that Bullit was compared to my Foes. I would have traded the Bullit for a burrito at that moment. I demanded my Foes back and thats when I realized what three years in suspension advancement does to a mountain bike. The rear shock is so smooth and keeps the back wheel glued to the ground. The combination of the super stiff rear triangle and the Curnut shock make for the most incredible ride. I swear my Dragon has more back end waggle than the Foes. I always keep a hardtail around for when I go up in the mountains in N.C. for them really long 15 mile climbs but not anymore. I am going with one bike and really enjoy the way down. I will check back in three months and see if this Nirvana is still with me. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Dispite 38t, it trail rode great, and when forks are @ 110 it preformed awsome on our slalom course. I think Foes has a Do Everything bike that has no down side. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1250.00 | | Purchased At: | Beyond Bikes | | Strengths: | Built bullet proof. Highest quality. Very impressed. | | Weaknesses: | None | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized | | Bike Setup: | Bike parts | | Bottom Line: | First serious full suspension bike I have ever owned. I was a bit concerned at first since I have always ridden hard tails, but one day was all it took to convert me over to full suspension bikes. I ride very aggressively and this bike can take whatever I can dish out. I have actually become a much better rider since buying this frame. My confidence and skill have increases 100%. I now take on obstacles and trails that I would have avoided with my hard tail. I will always ride Foes! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Still rare.. | | Weaknesses: | Took some time to "break in" the shock. | | Similar Products Used: | Santa Cruz, Ellsworth, Titus, Giant. | | Bike Setup: | If its cheap.. its not on it.. | | Bottom Line: | Awesome performance from a really cool looking frame. Took several hard rides to bed in the shock though, after that, its all butter. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$4500.00 | | Purchased At: | rbikes.com | | Strengths: | Quality, Beeootiful welds, the massive shock. | | Weaknesses: | kinda loud | | Similar Products Used: | giant ac1 | | Bike Setup: | Ti ITD, Marz AM SL1, XT drivetrain, Crossmax SX wheels,Conti Diesel 2.5 UST | | Bottom Line: | the Foes is a mean machine! Rock solid frame that soaks anything on the trail. Best hidden feature is how well this bike climbs. The combination of a laterally stiff frame and the Curnutt platform propels the bike forward with exceptional traction and efficiency. Downhill is a dream - smooth, stable and very accurate steering. Richard's bikes is an awesome dealer - very helpful with ordering (custom color),setup and dealing with warranty issues (Marzocchi). I would definitely recommend them as a retailer. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Bethesda, MD, USA Date Reviewed: June 30, 2007 | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | The shock is AWESOME. Every bump that this frame rolls over is instantly sucked up like a vacuum cleaner. Great on the downhills and very little bob. | | Weaknesses: | Not exactly a trail bike like they advertise it to be. More like a freeride bike that you can actually pedal around the trails with. Front wheel lifts up while climbing a lot even with 130mm front fork setup. | | Similar Products Used: | Giant AC, Mountain Cycle Slix, GT I-Drive, Mountain Cycle Fury | | Bike Setup: | Marzocchi AM SL1, DT swiss EX5.1D, XT cranks, XT deraillures, Hayes HFX Mag, Nevegal 2.35", Diabolus 70mm stem, raceface headset, Titus handlebar, shimano clipless pedals. | | Bottom Line: | This bike can ride XC, but I wouldn't say its intended for it. Going downhill its awesome. It flies fast and is lightweight around the turns. It pedals great with hardly any bob. I'd get it if you are mostly into going downhill, but still want a bike that you can pedal around the local xc trails with. Its not heavy, its just got too much travel in my opinion for XC riding. I got my bike under 30 lbs. but I still have a hard time going up on the bike. The main feature I've found to be extraordinary with this bike is the shock. It is so nice. Its better at absorbing the bumps than any other bike I've been on. I just hope I'm not spoiled with it now. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Looks really cool. | | Weaknesses: | Hmmm.. | | Similar Products Used: | Enduro, Heckler, Mongoose.. | | Bottom Line: | Awesome.. enough said. Dont understand the comment the guy before me is saying. No matter how I try, even pedaled it while it was upside down on the floor, big ring, small ring.. I cant force the chain to touch the chainstay. Maybe using an "ultra granny" ring (smaller than 22T ring)may do the trick. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$3000.00 | | Purchased At: | local | | Strengths: | the strenght of the foes is unmatched | | Weaknesses: | LOTS of trouble with the rear triangle. The rear triangle is positioned way below the bottom bracket, Which causes the chain to contact the chainstay when using the smallest ring. This is a trail bike not a dh rig so running three rings should not be a probleme, But it is and Its a design flaw that foes needs to re-think. If anyone has had the same probleme and a solution I would love to know.402wvillard@bresnan.net THANKS | | Similar Products Used: | NONE | | Bike Setup: | no expense spared on components. | | Bottom Line: | Excellent bike if built right XC contender. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

You'll forget you're on a 6" travel bike. Oh ya, It handles pretty damn good too. | | Weaknesses: | Maybe weight if you're that much of a dork. How well it climbs more than makes up for any extra weight, so MAN UP!! | | Similar Products Used: | Foes Weasle, Ellsworth Joker | | Bike Setup: | Fox vanilla 140mm. Mavic wheels, RaceFace cranks, blah, blah, blah. | | Bottom Line: | Made in America! All made in house. Unlike Ellsworth, which is nothing more than a marketing company that doesn't actually make anything. Foes, except no substitute! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$3700.00 | | Purchased At: | Rbikes | | Strengths: | Made in USA, beautiful workmanship, stiff, great handling, climbs well, plenty of tire clearance and it sure is purty. | | Weaknesses: | Kinda heavy, cable routing makes is a bit difficult to pick up and carry, not much else. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Enduro (owned) and Giant AC1 borrowed, Scott Ransom demoed | | Bike Setup: | Crossmax xl, XO gripshift and rear d, XT front de and cranks, Manitou Nixon Platinum, Thompson layback, truvativ team stem and bars, juicy carbons, Ti XTD. Generally solid but lightweight | | Bottom Line: | I really thought I wanted to give this bike less than five chilis. Why?? Not because it deserves it, but I had a hard time believing there would not be something to improve on - well maybe weight, but that is almost unavoidable with a 3" stroke Curnett shock (it weighs nearly 2 lbs with ti spring) Any way, after the first ride I might have given it 4 chilis, but now that it is broken in more there is no question it deserves 5. It is well designed (I studied mechanical engineering), it climbs well for any bike, not just a 6in travel bike (the fork is more of a problem here), it feels plush even over smallish bumps, and it looks great. I think it is a great product and really a great value for a custom US made bike (and shock!). This really becomes clear when you shop around. I don't know if this is the best bike out there, but it is definitely the best bike I have ever ridden and certainly the most fun. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$5800.00 | | Purchased At: | rbikes.com, Speccial thanks to Mike Richard | | Strengths: | Bukid quality and handling are stunning. This killer frame is hand crafted in USA by "The Master" himself, none other than Brent Foes. The attention to detail is very impressive and the welding is first rate. With the industry leading curnutt shock you get minimal pedal bob with smooth and accurate travel. This frame is extremely strong/stiff. Most important, the chics dig it! | | Weaknesses: | None that I have encountered. Well, except for the price. Heck, I could have bought a new YZ for the same green. | | Similar Products Used: | Ellsworth Moment, Intense Uzzi, Foes LTS, Foes Weasel, Schwinn 4 Banger, Schwinn Straight 8. | | Bike Setup: | 2007 Large Silver FXR Frame w/Curnutt Ti XTD, 2007 Shimano XTR gruppo with wheelset, 2007 FOX 32 Talas RLC, Truvativ Team (stem, bars and seat post), Chris King Nothreadset, Fizik Gobi, Hutchison Spyder UST | | Bottom Line: | No need to say much more than has already been said about this killer bike. Make no mistake, and no matter what anyone else tells you, for XC you cannot find a better built or handling bike. I'd also like to offer my praise for all the crew over at rbikes.com AKA Richards Bikes. Mike Richard is a real pleasure to do business with. Mike and his supporting staff, namely Adam and Toni are absolutely first rate! I would not hesitate to do business with them again. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$2200.00 | | Purchased At: | H&S bikes | | Strengths: | The anti-bob rear curnutt, the frame design, the top tube is cool looking (that does help the way it rides but it's cool) This bike is great for the fact that it can be built up to fit any or your riding needs | | Weaknesses: | None, this bike is (.)(.)'s | | Similar Products Used: | to many to list | | Bike Setup: | 66sl in front, sungle track rims, easton bars and stems, XT drive train and brakes | | Bottom Line: | The bottom line is this... many complain about the weight of the frame/bike, this means nothing to me...if your worried about weight loose some in the gut, hey we can all do that.....as for as the bike goes, it pedals great and bombs down even better...single track, drops, rockgardens, you name it this bike can handle it. There is nothing that needs to be changes on this bike, Brett got it right one, the new 2.1 is great....if you want a quality bike get your order in now.. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1500.00 | | Purchased At: | r-bikes/Ernie | | Strengths: | The bike is built to be ridden, standing up is just as good as sitting down. Excellent suspension, no bob here. The frame and suspension are truly world class, The best bike I've ridden period. Singletrack has met it's match, and rough technical trails are a blast on this bike! | | Weaknesses: | I'm looking... | | Similar Products Used: | Gary Fisher, Trek, Giant | | Bike Setup: | Race Face XC evolve cranks, SRAM X7 triggershift, Avid Juicy brakes, Sun-Ringle RPM XXL wheelset, Easton cockpit, Thomson Elite 31.6 Seatpost, Manitou Nixon Comp Plus in Urban grey Camo. | | Bottom Line: | If you find yourself looking for challenging singletrack, and have the nerve to go where other's ride around, this bike will take you there with a smile on your face. The frame geometry is very comfortable going downhill, uphill, and across the hill. The fun factor this bike gives is worth the price of admission. The bike weighs 30 lbs complete. If that scares you then lose the lycra shorts and let the hair grow back on your legs. Hat's off to Brent for keeping the design and fabrication of this great bike in the U.S.A, I've noticed a trend of manufacturer's outsourcing the manufacture and fabrication overseas, and still charging nearly the same price. This does not sit well with me, but that's just my opinion. Thanks Brent, you are a class act. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$5500.00 | | Purchased At: | built myself | | Strengths: | everything. strong and stiff frame. excellent shock. curnett and foes invented the anti-bob/spv technology and take it a few steps ahead of all with the 2:1 ratio. | | Weaknesses: | only had the bike for a short time, outside of the weight, havent found any yet. | | Similar Products Used: | specialized epic, specialized enduro, gt lts1, specialized downhill rigs, gt lobo | | Bike Setup: | sram, truvativ, avid, marzocchi am sl, chris king hubs/ with 717 rims, easton cockpit | | Bottom Line: | this is by far the best bike i have owned. responsive, go uphill as good as it goes down. my medium frame with the xtd shock and ti springs came in at 7.5 lbs, and the full bike with a more cross country package came in at 28.5 lbs, just because a part is light does not mean it wont be durable.i am not doing any heavy freeride or downhill, but i do some 3-4 foot drops and fast descents, and the bike is just great, confidence building, and lets me do things i couldn't on my other rigs. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$5000.00 | | Purchased At: | Dizzy Cycles | | Strengths: | Superb suspension. Excellent combination of aggressive cross country and moderate downhill. Well balanced. Curnutt shock close to Specialized Brain performance. Sleek design. Frame price affordable. | | Weaknesses: | 8 1/4 lbs frame makes for a 30 lbs + bike - don't believe anyone that say they can build it below 29 lbs and ride anything but gravel. | | Similar Products Used: | Ellsworth Joker, Specialized Enduro, Trek 77, Yeti ASX, Giant AC1. | | Bike Setup: | Large frame, Magura Louise brakes, Fox 36 Talas, Single Track rims with Specialized 2.4 tires, XT BB, DX Pedals, SRAM shifters and derr., King hubs and headset, Thompson stem and seatpost. | | Bottom Line: | Head/seat angles and balance perfect for tight maneuvering and pedaling. Perfect bike for all seasons North Shore style cross country/freeride. Basic frame is good value. Ellsworth Joker and Specialized Enduro are similar bikes, but do not pedal as well - and pricier. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
